…Old Plex Pass customer would too. This has been too long and now Plex is getting (for me) way out of date. I tried using HEIC to JPG converters – the new images are of course missing the old timestamp. I have several phones and I combine – I can’t ask everyone to change their setting on their phone to JPG just because of Plex.
…looking for an alternative now to Plex unless this is resolved soon. No choice.

Why plex seems ignore the request or no feedback? IOS 11 used heic already.
Just want to know any technical problem or when will be available.
Its hard to believe plex make a note how to downgraded heic to jpg.

As a user i always like Plex, its a awesome software that share media to family and friends, so i really surprise that why Plex still not support AND no answer OR reply . Just want to let us know the situation even we can’t help your team develop.
Imagine my surprise when I realized HEIC isn’t supported. I’d really love to ditch Google Photos in favor of using Plex for my pictures, but the lack of HEIC is a real show-stopper.
(The lack of Live Photo support that is implied here is also a real bummer.)
I mean, we get that things take time, and not everything will be supported… but the default photo format on the #1 phone company in the world (depending on how you count, not the time to quibble, android folk), for over a year now, when Google Photos, onedrive, Windows 10, everyone else supports it… its just… what the hell guys?

I just spent an hour trying to figure out why so many of my pictures are “missing”… Sigh Add one for me.

Its not a funny joke for sure. Its a very very sad joke. Plex just doesn’t seem to care. Anyone find a good alternative to Plex?
Switch to Emby. They support HEIC and thus far also have better/faster streaming for MOV, etc.
Is it so hard to implement HEIC/HEIF? Every Apple user needs this feature!!

I’m curious, how was the transition to Emby?
Not that good. The speed is “ok” and while I believed HEIC support was there not yet either. I’m looking around still for alternatives. What Emby is saying what is holding them up is https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/6521 and this needs to be resolved in ffmpeg before they can do anything about it. Its all very ridiculous if you ask me.

It’s a waste of space and a hack, but I’ve worked around this for the time being by giving up and making a converted copy. I had 700ish photos stored in HEIC format and on my Mac - I made a new folder, created a smart folder in the photos app to find them all. Did a select all and dragged them into my new folder. They were converted during the copy process.
Then I added the new folder to my photo library in Plex.
It works. It’s a kludge and a waste of space for sure, but only a couple of gig space wise. And I don’t have missing photos in Plex anymore. FWIW.
I attempted this as well. The new converted files have newer timestamps and at least the one I used did not transfer all the meta data over.
