@Will_726 - I see the timestamp on the converted file is indeed the date/time I dragged them out of my Mac’s Photos app. As far as I can tell all the metadata was preserved in the converted file however.
In Plex - I sorted the photos by “Date Taken” and not “Date Added” and then got them displayed in the order I expected/wanted. If your camera/device captures the date taken - this could help you. I’m thinking this will be the case for a device that captures in HEIC??? Hope this helps.
That is way too annoying, but pretty simple: There are feature requests, but no one is interested in this technique. If you take a look at the “Votes for feature suggestion” livephotos got 23 votes, somewhere down in the list.
I already made a suggestion after wwdc 2017 (1.5years ago), NOTHING: [Feature Request] Support HEIF format in photo library (the standard equivalent to Apple LIVE Photo)
It seems either nobody knows about this technical background, nobody is interessted in, or the people who do are only 23 persons^^
From what I can tell, it looks like Plex for iOS, quasi supports HEIC now. When a picture is taken in HEIC format and gets uploaded by the Plex for iOS app, it gets converted into a jpg file. That’s not exactly what I’d like, but I think it’s progress?
more than 2 years and Plex have does not support HEIC format yet .
For Plex developers: This is a big deal as all new phones save their photos in HEIC. Worst for you (plex) it will be an standard soon.
So, Hurry Up!
As I see things so far, posting “+1” here doesn’t generate a lot of attention. If you wish to see HEIC support in Plex, better upvote the corresponding feature request below.
That one is also way too old already so give it some love upvotes!
Still no HEIF??? It’s well over a year, this is simply ridiculous and small minded to expect all your users to convert to a different format.
I know you don’t provide ETA’s but is it really still being worked on?
I concur with needing support for HEIC/HEIF format. I carry iOS and would love to not have to use OneDrive and/or Google Drive to back my mounds of pictures and videos on my phone. It has been quite sometime since HEIC/HEIF format has been release and even Google and Microsoft now supports it via their photo’s app. I love my plex server and would love to see it be able to do this as well!!
