Will Plex Media Player 32 bits version be available?

We will most likely bring a Windows 32 bit build out before the end of the preview period. We will see about other platforms (Mac not)

That’s great to hear, thanks for the update.

Awesome, thanks a bunch for getting back to us about this.

Wow! I just installed the 64bit version of Plex Media Player on one of my computers and WOW, I really LOVE the smooth skip forward/skip backward x264 (HEVC) seeking… Plex Home Theatre chokes for 2-4 seconds on x265 (HEVC) content whenever seeking on all of my hardware since I think it doesn’t have hardware decoding for this newer codec, but I see Plex Media Player must have hardware decoding of it  I can’t wait till the 32bit version is released! Very exciting, great work!

Echoing previous comments, I am running a Linx 10 tablet, which forces me onto 32bit windows, and wait in anticipation for a 32 bit version

There is no hardware decoding for it. But unlike PHT; PMP has software decoding implemented. In PHT PMS had to transcode the video for it to work. And I can imagine that skipping/seeking in a transcoded HEVC file would make buffering pauses show up.

Ahh, thanks for the explanation. That must be what is happening.

I do notice that PMP has a “hardware decoding” checkbox that is unchecked by default… I turned it on but didn’t notice a difference, wonder if it does anything.

It sure does. But only for video files that have supported video codecs. Like H264. Play a video with H264 and keep an eye on the CPU utilization to see what I mean. It is a dramatic difference in CPU usage.
Video quality-wise there is no difference however. Only how much your computer has to work

Actually, there is hardware decoding for HEVC on Windows. But not many GPUs support it. The only desktop platform missing HEVC decoding is OSX. (Not sure if Apple added anything yet.)

What? That is good news. How can we find out which GPU´s support it? Download GPU manufacturer manuals and search for HEVC hardware acceleration support there?

Good question. It’s not always really clear. For example, on Windows, some Intel GPUs support hybrid HEVC decoding via DXVA, while the same machine will not support it at all on Linux. So I’m going to say, you’ve got to try it out whether it works.

Cool!

New Intel IGP drivers add H.265, VP9 hardware decode support

another vote for 32bit media player.

Please release the Windows 32 bit build soon!

Important steps has been taken in that direction. But still need more hours in a day…

Any progress the last month? Is there an ETA on the 32 bit version?

No ETA - it’s very not the priority right now.

:-S But it’s still going to happen eventually though? If not, please do tell us  and I may then start reinstalling my media center PCs (have 5 of them across 3 locations) to Windows 10 64bit to take advantage of the newer features of Plex Media Player. Currently all of these 5+ year old 3.0GHz+ Intel Core 2 Duo computers are Windows 7 32bit w/ 2 to 4GB ram so they have been running just fine with 32bit Windows for half a decade. I switched them from Windows Media Center & XBMC to Plex Home Theatre ~2 years ago and would definitely love to use Plex Media Player w/o having to reinstall the OS on all of them  Sure, eventually I may have to upgrade them to newer hardware and at that time I’ll go to Windows 10 64-bit for sure… but still hoping to get 2+ more years out of these HTPCs since they handle x265 1080p playback without any issues.

We have already confirmed that we are working on it. So yes.

Okie dokie. Thanks tobiashieta

Any update on 32 bits version?
