Will plex media server run on Windows Server 2016 Essentials?

I am thinking about setting up a computer to run Windows Server 2016 Essentials, but, I would like to know if plex media server will run on it?

the closest relevant info i can give you is that i had a pretty reliable server for about 16 months on the windows server 2016 technical preview, this was on pretty old Xeon hardware, an HP G6. This was before i decided to go with OpenMediaVault 6 months ago.

OpenMediaVault does look very interesting. I imagine it is low overhead, fast, and supports plugins. I plan to look into it further.

It should run with no problem… you should try it…

One of my Plex servers runs on a HP Microserver with OMV. It’s great software and extremely stable. I only rebooted it the other day as I upgraded to OMV 3.

Very good comment I think I will try both Windows Server 2016 Essentials and OpenMediaVault. Possibly I will compare them.

My thanks to all of you for your information.

I’m running Plex Media Server on Windows 10 Pro for 1 and a half year now. It is very reliable and smooth. I think you will not have any problems with Windows Server 2016 either. Furthermore I would recommend the Server version of Windows because on Windows 10 updates and upgrades are comming out too frequently which can be sometimes annoying.

Im running it on windows server 2016 essentials right now.

However, the latest release of plex appears to have issues. It has been crashing for me at least twice a day every day since I installed the latest update. It appears as though I am not the only one either. Either way, I dont think it has anything to do with windows server, you should go ahead and run it.

thank you very much I will give it a try
