Will PMP stop working?

The new Mac / Windows app is not a replacement for an HTPC app (PMP). While it uses mpv for playback under the hood, it is does not have feature parity with PMP in many areas (remote controls, keyboard input, refresh rate switching, audio configuration etc). We are open to adding some of these features, but it will never be a replacement for a home theater setup. The PMP use case is different than an app intended for laptops and desktops.

I wouldn’t exactly say it’s a funding issue in the more desperate sense that you seem to be using, but we are relatively small team. As any team would, we try to make informed decisions on how to spend our time and where to put our resources. We support a lot of platforms and a lot of use cases, and it’s difficult to cover all of that well. Most of that community that started with HTPC setups have since moved on from HTPCs (I used to use Plex Media Center with a Mac Mini hooked up to my TV). I don’t think a handful of PMP users paying a little more would have had a meaningful effect on that decision, but at this point we’re talking about a decision that has since been changed.

I think the core of that fix is already in PMP, but PMP will be having its dependencies upgraded to be the same as the Mac / Windows app, which could improve dropped frames.

Well, looking forward to trying that out.

Worth considering for the future a premium plex pass that gives access to PMP, that way you can monetise it better and price accordingly since it’s one of your less used apps

… and indeed it did improved dropped frames (something did anyway) - to the point there aren’t any (that I can see).

PMP is once again viable (Version 3.104.2).

Thanks.
