I just noticed that in the actors photos in all my Will Smith movies, the photo of Will Smith is a goofy looking white dude (that I don’t recognize). Trying to figure out whether this is a problem that I only have or all of us is having? So if you have some Will Smith movies in your library, can you check? Also, where is this data getting pulled from, I am unclear about that too… Thank you.
Until I saw this post I had never looked at actor’s posters in Plex. I have now checked my posters and I do not see any issue. I checked all my movies with Will Smith and I see nothing wrong.
Every poster I have that I have checked looks fine.
to confirm by poster, you mean the actor’s photo, correct? So if you look at the actor’s photo, you see Will Smith on your plex?

Of course. Those pictures are worthless to me but every one is correct, but many of the ones I checked show the actors a LOT younger than they really are. Will Smith seems the exception, he is displayed pretty much exactly as he is.
ok - believe it or not, this was helpful. I just switched agent (I was using the plex agent) and switched it to Movie Database agent and it fixed the photo - The weird part is that it not only fixed the photo for the movie I fixed but for all movies. Anyway, I guess that is the fix. Thanks.
Therein - the beauty (and the beast) of Plex Movie (IMDB):

Goofy Looking White Guy?
When I had this problem, I narrowed it down to the movie Paddington, which has the British Will Smith cast as “Geographer (Present Day)”*.
Basically, every time I refreshed metadata on Paddington, the photo for Will Smith would be changed to Will Smith (GB), while every time I refreshed data on any Will Smith (US) movie, the photo would be changed back.
As long as you have two different actors with the same name in your library, this will happen, because Plex doesn’t seem to have another way of distinguishing them. So you either have to accept that the two actors will be combined, or find less official ways to separate them.
Maybe he’s channeling Michael Jackson.

Come on; Don’t deride the Michael!
Michael Jackson is one of the great USA success stories. Where else, but in the USA, can a poor black boy grow up to be a rich white woman?

That photo is of Will Smith just not the correct Will Smith Will Smith (comedian) - Wikipedia
LOL! That’s real funny. I have the same thing. All 22 movies have the what we call him… goofy white looking dude. Oddly enough this was not the case last year as I know Plex had the correct Will Smith. I’m sure glad I don’t give a ■■■■ about the actor mugshots. I wish I could just disable that feature entirely.
I guess that just happens to you poor, disillusioned and sure to be disappointed users that make Plex Movie your default Movie Agent. At my house, with TMDB I get the standard Will Smith, not the Channel Island, genetic diversity challenged Will Smith (AKA: The Discount Hugh Grant)… lol:
I didn’t make Plex Movie my default nor is it my current setting for my movie library.
LOL! To be honest, I actually like the new Will Smith. It gives humor to a pointless feature.
I don’t know what you guys got going on, but I have plenty of Movies with The Fresh Prince in them - NONE of them show the picture of The Discount Hugh Grant.
I suspect Plex Movie and IMDB as the culprit - because I avoid Plex Movie like I would avoid Smallpox or Syphilis - and simply don’t have all these issues.
It’s all good.
@contrary_cat probably has the real answer, and the agent being used has nothing to do with the photo. I discovered this little bug a year or so ago.
I think Plex actually uses the same actor photo for everything, so actors with exactly the same name get the same photo . So if you have a movie or TV show with the White Dude, you’ll get the white dude showing up in anything that the Fresh Prince is in. It really depends on when the info info was last downloaded or refreshed. If you refresh a movie with the Fresh Prince, or add a new item with him as an actor, the white dude’s photo for Paddington will change. That’s probably the real reason the photo was corrected when you change agents for an item.
I don’t remember what I added to Plex that gave me the wrong photo, but now I’m curious. Does Plex consider them the same actor, so they will show up in the hubs like “More with Will Smith”
Well, if it requires a ‘Fix’ by the developers - then if it’s happening might as well get used to it.
It’s basically permanent.
WTH! It’s back to normal.
