Will we finally get auto playing trailers like Netflix?

With the new UI the extra large space for background art is perfect for autoplaying trailers as well. Almost every single streaming service from Tubi to Netflix provides this very convenient feature for browsing, so I’m hoping it’s coming to new Plex in the final version. Of course also including the ability to set custom trailers or previews. I know not everyone is a fan so an option to turn it off might be necessary.

I agree the extra space could be better used. I’m OK with an option to autoplay trailers, if, as you noted, there is also an option to disable that. The current clients allow both options and that needs to be the case with the new clients as well. I, for one, can’t stand it when streaming services start playing trailers for everything I’m browsing through (I’m looking at you, Amazon!).

Lets hope they will develop some kind of hovering trailers option.

Thanks

Just my opinion on this.
This would be awesome! I’ve been hoping this would come to Plex for a long time.
When some time ago this was, sort-of, introduced for Live-TV. I had high hopes they would add it to Movies and TV-Shows in your own liobrary as well. But up till now, still no show.

please add, with an option to disable.

I use LG WebOS app on 3 TV’s, Android TV on 1, Google TV on 1 and on my Android phone.

i would like this option yes. but at the same time have it toggleable for users to dissable if they dont want it. See how i say users. not server or account. cause im sure my kids would love it since its like netflix. but my wifes home account she would rather not have it.

Yes, has to be optional. I actually mute the TV when I log into Netflix, autoplay when browsing titles drives me insane. I wish Netflix would make that optional!

Yes, optional (client side and server side). But, I like it. However, someone would need to upgrade the quality of a lot of trailers, especially for classic movies.

Just FYI — you can turn this off for Netflix, but you have to do it by signing into the website and turning it off under Account>>Edit Settings>>Playback Settings. And it turns it off on all of your devices I believe.

yup, that does work.

Thank You!

Why I don’t think this could or should work in Plex:

I believe Plex pulls trailers from a third party source, yes? It doesn’t have control over how they’re formatted, where I suspect Netflix does, or would make adjustments because…

That green band rating card that precedes all of the movie trailers would get SUPER annoying real fast to see all the time while I’m poking around.

If I had to vote, I’d be against wanting it. Wouldn’t kill my universe if it showed up but seems like the juice wouldn’t be worth the squeeze for Plex trying to get it to work.
