Win 10 New Install

Server Version#: 4.66.1
Player Version#:

I was forced to do a clean install of Win 10. So this of course means installing all my software and apps.
After Installing media server on my PC, how come…

  1. You are forced to choose a new sever name. I chose the exact same name.

  2. When I login with my Plex credentials, and point to the same folders for TV and Movies, it can’t connect to the sever I had on my previous (old) install of windows? I had a bunch of playlist all setup that I don’t want to use. Of course when I turned on my TV the sever was grayed out as it can’t connect.

I was able to fix part of this, and at least see my old server, but there are no playlist showing. So I decide just to make new playlist, and made (7) different playlist, but there is no Playlist showing in the left panel? I thought there used to be a gear for settings, but I see nothing.

Even if you name your new server installation the same “Friendly Name” as the old server instance, it is still a new server.

Servers are identified by a globally-unique ID number, which is stored in the Windows registry. Unless you have a backup of the Plex Inc. branch of the registry, you cannot restore your old server ID.

You will have to perform a fresh set-up of all your Plex clients. This will remove the links to the old server instance from the left sidebar and pin new links on it:
