I have a Linux server that I run my Plex server on and some months ago I completely flattened the server and installed a new OS and the latest Plex server. When I installed the new OS and latest Plex I gave everything the same name as my old server. In other words the server was given the same name and IP and the Plex server name stayed the same. Things are running fine but periodically the old Plex server shows up in my Plex clients. It will show the “old” unreachable Plex server and the new Plex server and unfortunately the “old” Plex server is always the default. I have searched the forums and found some old posts on this topic but nothing has worked so far. What can I do to resolve this?
even if you assign the new server instance the same name, it still won’t assume the “identity” of the old server. Clients which were originally connected to the old server are still going to look for the old server (at least for a while).
When the “old” server shows up it never assumes the “identity” of the new one. I always see both the “old” and the new listed and they both have the same name. I have used the link you provided to remove the old server in the past but like I said, it will eventually show-up again. Why does it continue to show back up even after removing it?
I have done that in the past but I can’t say I have done that with all my clients. Are you saying that if I don’t do the “reset customizations” on all my clients after removing the old server the old server will eventually show back up?
All the clients are storing individually, which libraries have been pinned to the left side bar. If you use a different server, all those libraries which are still pointing to the old server need to be removed and replaced by links to the new server.
The fastest way to do that is the reset procedure.
