Windows 10 Certificate local issue

Whatever is happening with how you zip files is beyond my understanding.

A ZIP is a ZIP regardless of OS… That’s its purpose.

This is the first time I’ve not been able to unzip a file from a user

The file does open fine on my PC.

I think the issue may be that since I can’t login to the forums on my PC to attach the file directly, but have to first send them to a wetransfer link and then download that link to a files folder on a notoriously incompatible with everything iPhone and then attach them that way.

This is the link to the wetransfer page where I uploaded the zip file in order to send it to myself.

Do you have google drive ? (the first 5 GB – I think – is free / part of google mail )

You can zip locally then just push the Zip to google.. No repackaging by an intermediary

I have no clue why that is happening. I promise I’m not technically illiterate to the point I can’t highlight files, right click and select ‘add to archive’. I’ll upload the zip file to my G drive folder once my kids are fed and settled - so, like, midnight.

We will get there

Thanks. Appreciate the enthusiasm - especially since I just realized that it’s not just the remote access that doesn’t work. Local streaming is no longer working either. Must have simply been what was left in the buffer that was playing earlier.

While you work on getting logs, I have a few wild guesses.

Do you have anything on the network that might be hijacking DNS or SSL requests? Pi-hole or similar?

Do you have a VPN with “split tunneling” or “bypass” features, and have you made any exceptions or routing rules for Plex?

Have you ever used anything else, like VPN-Bypass, for Plex? Anything that might put entries into C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts?

Hi, Volts. Thanks for the suggestions.

I do have PIA as a VPN and do use the split tunnel feature, but it’s only in use from time to time and wasn’t in use at the time of the issue. Having said that, its only use is to run one specific application through the VPN, rather than having all traffic run through it with exceptions made for specific applications. I’ve checked the hosts file and it’s completely devoid of any entries - just a blank file. I’m not 100% certain if that’s a particular good or bad thing, but it’s my understanding (albeit from a non-technological background) that if the file is empty it would preclude anything in it from causing an issue.

I do not run Pi-Hole specifically, but do run a script blocker add-on called NoScript on Firefox, but not on any other browser. I’ve since disabled it as well as uBlock Origin ad blocker once the issue arose in order to bring everything back to square one and eliminate anything that might affect finding a solution.

Log files are not in zip format, but rar5 format

Corrected to zip format below

Logs.zip (2.3 MB)

And your log says:

Feb 16, 2022 13:04:27.947 [8452] WARN - [HttpClient] HTTP error requesting GET https://plex.tv/media/providers?X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (60, SSL peer certificate or SSH remote key was not OK) (SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate)

Is your Windows updated with the latest updates?

Edit: And on the windows box itself, can you browse to https://plex.tv

Logs.zip (1.6 MB)

If this doesn’t work I’ll cry, but I’ll send over the G-drive files anyway.

Edit: I see that Dane has fixed the issue. Thanks, Dane.

You’re welcome, and also please answer my Q’s

Windows Update says that it’s up to date as of last checking today at 1:31 pm and no, I cannot access https://plex.tv

It brings me to this page:

Okay, somehow your windows computer doesn’t ack plex intermediate certificate, and as such, due to security, refuse to connect.

Is this a company PC, or your own?
And reason for asking is that if it’s a company pc, then it might be running with policies preventing manual certificate updates

I did separate your post/Q’s into a new forum thread, since not related to the origin thread

Another thing that hasn’t been asked yet. Do you have any anti-virus/anti-malware/security/firewall software running?

This is my own personal computer. I went as far as turning off my work iPhone and nearby work laptop on the off chance that my phone or laptop was somehow being used as a hotspot in place of my home network, but it wasn’t the case.

I use both Windows firewall and anti-virus software, disabled both and reset the server, but continued to be directed to the same ‘Secure Connection Failed’ page. I do not run any Malware software.

Would you suggest keeping the firewall/anti-virus programs disabled in conjunction with other approaches until a solution is found?

does it do the same in a different browser or another computer?

Try this:

Browse to: https://cacerts.digicert.com/BaltimoreCyberTrustRoot.crt and save the file
After file is saved, click on it

Select Open

image

Click on Install Certificate

image

Select Local Machine and click Next

image

Leave as is, and click Next to import

After that’s done, try and browse to plex.tv again and report back
