For my first PLEX Server (yes I am a newbie) I used an old Microsoft Surface which still works well in all other respects. I added an external 4TbSSD and started loading PLEX.
Processor - |Intel(R) Core™ i7-7660U CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.50 GHz|
Installed RAM - 16.0 GB|
System type Windows 10 64-bit operating system
All was going well untill I purchased the PLEX PASS. I did not make any other changes (that I can think of). The server had run for about three weeks without problems but since I purchased PLEX Pass it causes Windows to crash every night such that I have to do a hardware reset and restart.
The Windows system and application logs show only an unexpected shutdown.
Is there a way I can shut down all the PLEX Pass features so I try them one at a time and Identify the issue? Is there anything else I can do?
Having read a few similar posts with no clear resolution I noted that people were asked to include their PLEX logs so they are with this post.
If it is happening overnight that suggests that it has to do with one of the Plex Pass-specific media analysis tasks, like Sonic Analysis. These tasks are set to run late but you can change the Scheduled Tasks hours so that they run all the time. If you do that and can induce a crash in the daytime at least you will know the crash has something to do with the maintenance tasks. Then, you can start shutting them off to see which one is the problem.
Thanks for your thoughts. My problem is that I cannot find a list of the settings. Some of them have “(Plex Pass required)” so they are obvious; however, I would not have thought of ‘Sonic Analysis’ as it is not noted as requiring Plex Pass. Any list of settings would be great.
Start by disabling Settings - [Server] - Transcoder - “Use hardware acceleration when available”
And leave all other settings unchanged. See if the crashing stops.
If that doesn’t make a change, disable all the items named “Generate…”/“Analyze…” in Settings - [Server] - Library
These are more prone to cause issues with a poor designed/aged cooling system. Testing them can take a few days. Particularly to find out which of them are running perfectly fine, and which may cause crashes.
As last resort disable the various tasks in Settings - [Server] - Scheduled Tasks. See if that is causing any change.
It can’t hurt to ensure the healthiness of your server database. Execute this .bat file while Plex server is shut down. (Verify there is plenty of free space left on your C: drive beforehand!)
