Windows 10 Laptop Continually Buffers

3 computers in the house. 2 Laptops and a desktop. Desktop is running PMS 09.12.8.1362 and both laptops use Chrome to access Plex through the static IP address.

1st laptop updated to Windows 10 and runs Plex no problems.

2nd Laptop updated to Windows 10 and has no problem seeing the server (Can browse the Library, see Preview Images, etc), but when playing anything just continually buffers. Spinning circle spins forever. I’ve tried lots of different settings to diagnose the problem and have come up empty.

When I check the Activity window on the desktop, it shows the stream to the laptop, but says “buffering”. This has been going on for about 20 minutes so far.

I didn’t have any problems before updating to Windows 10, and the other Windows 10 Laptop works just fine.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Use Chrome instead of Edge

I should add that I am using Chrome. I’ve also tried Edge and Internet Explorer and the problem occurs in all of them.

wireless or wired connection to server?
in any way, go to the energy settings in the properties of the network adapter(s) and disable energy saving

Most crucial on the server, but I’ve seen cases where the client needed this setting too.

The Server is wired. The laptop on which I’m trying to play is wireless. I’ve changed the power setting with no change. Still continually buffers.

Remember, it already works on the other laptop in the house. The only difference between the 2 laptops is that one is running Windows 10 Home (working) and the other is running Pro (not working). Don’t know why that would make a difference.

Also, I don’t use the plex.tv login to reach the media player page. Instead, I use http://192.168.x.xxx:32400/web/index.html (I’ve x’d out the missing IP numbers).

After it stopped working I tried the other way. Logged in to plex on the Laptop that wasn’t working and clicked the launch button but had the same problem, constant buffering.

This is very puzzling.

can you get debug logs from both the client and the server from around the time when you try to play a video?

You can PM them to me if you don’t want to post them publicly.

SERVER
Attached server log.txt
(My wife was watching on the ROKU while I was doing this. That continues to work with no problems)

I don’t see a file.
Also, please pick a time with no other activity on your server. The log messages from other clients’ activity fills up the logs quickly which makes it really difficult to spot the right lines.

CLIENT
client log.txt attached

Hmm, the attachment option doesn’t seem to be working. It’s telling me I’ve attached the file, but I don’t see it either. I’ll do it again with dropbox links and stop the roku as well.
Thanks.

(Oh there it is! What?)

I don’t see any playback activity in this log.

You must activate the logging, then try to playback, let it do that for 1 or 2 minutes and then save the logs.

Link to dropbox folder with both logs.

I activated logging. Started playback on the client. Went downstairs, waited a bit and copy/pasted the logs from the Server. Then back upstairs to the client, stopped playback, copy/paste.

My bad. Added the server logs to the Dropbox folder.

By the by, don’t spend too much time on this issue. I can use the old fashioned Windows Homegroup option to share media between my computers. It’s not as pretty, but currently it works…

I greatly appreciate the effort you’ve put in already.

I reported your issues to the developers.
You are not the only one with such issues, so we are glad to have some log files to assist diagnosis.

has this issue with windows 10 been resolved? I can see my server, and all of my content. everything plays fine on my windows 7 laptop, windows 8 desktop, iPad, mac computer. ATV3 and android app… but the moment i try to play anything from the windows 10 laptop it just buffers for what seems to be eternity. All other devices begin playing within a few seconds.

A bit of extra info if you need it. I was watching the resources tab on my windows 10 laptop as soon as I try to play something the WiFi speed jumps to 48Mb/s as soon as I close the browser it goes back to normal.

PMS is Version 0.9.12.11 running on OSX 10.9 Mac Pro

I have tried using Edge, IE, Chrome, and firefox.

I haven’t heard that this issue has been resolved. It certainly hasn’t been for me. Now I just use Windows Homegroup to share media on that particular laptop. Not as pretty, but effective.

I ended up reloading windows 10 as a fresh install instead of as an upgrade (You must do it as an upgrade first to update the license in bios) ensured all drivers were up to date. and now it is working great… I think the issue was the NIC driver, but cant be positive… the good news is that it is working great again now.
