I think Microsoft fixed the problem today for some of us on Win 10. Sat down an hour ago I went to reapply the update KB4338819, and there was another update in that list too, KB4345421.
It’s been an hour now of non-stop streaming and nothing has went went wrong. Could be too early to tell but I do think this emergency update could have magically solved the issue. Will report back soon.
+1 for cbabb’s feedback here. After a failed attempt to remove KB4338819, I did a repair on the PMS install and ran this new Windows update. Successfully made it through an entire episode of a one-hour show with no transcoding fail!
I haven’t installed anything on purpose recently, but I also haven’t encountered the error since restarting last night. I have to see since earlier, restarts only fixed the problem temporarily.
I am seeing the issue as well these last several days. I had run Windows updates on Friday, and the issue appeared after that. The issue is happening across multiple devices ( Specifically ROKU and Win 7)
I have Installed the Newest Windows update, and the Most Recent Plex update just now.
Those of you that installed the update and have had a few hours of no issues - did rebooting the server work as a temporary fix before like others had reported?
I had been having the same issue all day. I downloaded the latest updates for both Plex and Windows 10 and the problem was resolved. Seems the issue was just a matter of Plex and Windows catching up to each other.
This worked like a charm for me. In particular I was not having an issue streaming movie files but I was having issues with watching Live TV. It sucked because today was my first time using the Live TV/DVR feature so I’m glad I was able to find this solution. I had tried a few other things including restarting the server but this was the only thing that worked.
Check your update history to see if you have both recent hot fixes installed. 4345421 and 4338819. Let us know if you do.
Try uninstalling both: wusa /uninstall /kb:4345421 reboot then wusa /uninstall /kb:4338819 reboot. Once both are uninstalled, check for updates to reinstall them. Repair or update your install of PMS.
Keep in mind you have removed a security update. Which appears to have been rectified by an emergency patch out of Windows normal Patch Tuesday. Please install KB4338819 then KB4345421. After you have done that, give it a go.
If all of you still have problems, work with @sa2000.
Further mucking about revealed that when I downloaded KB4345421 and attempted to apply it claimed I had it, upon attempting a reboot for other reasons it appeared to be applying it or something else (got the long “please wait while applying whatever” message. When it came back up I managed to watch about three hours without issue as a test.
I believe 4345421 or something else was awaiting a reboot.
