Windows 7 Server exits after some time

Server Version#: 1.25.8.5663
Player Version#: Does not matter
WIndows 7 being running for years. Server exits after some time have to keep restarting.

I guess it’s time to start thinking about upgrading your server. Windows 7 has been out of support for quite some time.

As for the Plex related issue: your server logs might help…

Plex Media Server Logs_2022-04-02_17-49-27.zip (2.9 MB)
Done. Does plex run on Linux?

Sorry… I can see that your server crashed but there’s no immediate errors linked to it. It seems your server was busy but nothing jumps into my eye.

As a side note (most likely unrelated to the crash): you need to review your file organization.
Plex will have a hard time identifying shows in a movie library. Even if you move those shows into a separate tv-show library folder, you’ll need to rework some of that folder naming/organization.

Example:

SharedMovies
  TrueDetective
    True.Detective Season 1
      Covers
        ...

should be

F:
  TV Shows
    <name of the tv-show library folder>
      True Detective
        Season 01
True Detective - sXXeYY - optional episode name.ext

Recursive folder structures will cause a bit of chaos with Plex (e.g. TVShows inside SharedMovies). Also… don’t point a tv-show library to individual tv-show folders (some of your libraries seem to be pointing directly to the folders True Detective and Mr.Robot).

Of course it does. Are you?

If I may augment?

Given this system is running on Windows, and you’re asking about Linux, Please don’t switch to Linux unless you really know Linux.

Linux is very unforgiving. While we support running Plex on Linux, we are not equipped to teach Linux. A certain level of preexisting mastery is required.

lol At least I can speak english correctly.
What is up with condescending a holes these days?
In a past life I was a linux kernel dev and have done LFS several times.
Why would you make a comment like that? If you somehow think it makes you look smart to insult others, look again.
What ever happened to just answering the question?

condescending:
having or showing a feeling of patronizing superiority.

@jcdonelson21

It was not my intention to insult.

If you knew how many people ask about Linux, then migrate blindly to Linux without having any idea about how you use it, you’d understand why I asked.

I was a kernel dev myself. I started in the 1980’s with Unix and transitioned to Linux in the early 1.0 kernel days. I retired a few years ago.

I am the Linux packaging engineer who keeps Plex running on the different Linux systems we use.

Maybe it’s a known problem:

Ya, it’s a know issue alright - Windows 7 is no longer supported.

It is not conclusive from the logs that this is the same crash that @Olli referenced - I can add you to the users that are trying out development build 1.26.1.5712 if you like

Was there an entry in the Windows Application Event Log for Application Error at Apr 02, 2022 17:42:59 ?

Yes please I would like that very much it certainly can’t be any worse, the server only runs for less that a day as it is.
Ping me when it is done and I will use it.

Done

Download and install 1.26.1.5712

I see your still living in a Unix System V world, where it took a couple of boxes of floppies (I had 3 sets in case one failed to read in the middle) to reload the system on your AT&T 3B2. It pretty much tool all day, then you had to restore your customers backup from tape. (Installed one of the first Unix backdoors to elevate to root just so I did not not have to endure the because the customer had forgotten the root password).

These days a reasonably intelligent 12yo could install Linux, and most likely install Plex.
I would say it is actually easier that installing windows, which many people would struggle with.
Second you hardly need to be a Linux expert to do this.
The days of running a config and the a make install (that then would fail are require a bunch of googling) are gone.
What you should have said:
If your not familiar with Linux and have some issues you can’t resolve by a search feel free to ask me and I will do what I can to help.
Thats being helpful.

Where do I find 1.26.1.5712? I am currently on 1.25.9.5673.

Are you sure about that? Because the download page says
[Windows 7 SP1 or newer (Intel or AMD processors only)
So I wonder if 7 Really is out of support.

The download page could use a few edits, many of the minimums are end of life.

Support for Windows 7 has ended. After 10 years, support for Windows 7 ended on January 14, 2020 .

Ya so and. That does not mean plex can’t support it. And it seems plex still does.
For what’s it’s worth you still get updates for WIn 7. And there are still a ton of 7 boxes out there - and old win 7 box perfect Plex server.

the support w7 is not assured any more by microsoft but that does not prevent (for the moment) Plex to work fine on it.

For the current crash issue, it does not concern only W7 users but also those of W10/11.
To try the version 1.26.1.5712, you were invited in private by “sa2000”… consult your private messages to reach the subject which treats this crash and the download of this debug version.

I see thanks I found the PM and downloaded it. Will try it out.
If it still crashes should I put the logs somewhere?
