I have discovered a problem with the latest Windows version of the Plex server. Version 1.22.3.4392
Items in a TV series Special folder will not play if the item was originally released before another item in the regular seasons OR another episode in the special’s folder.
This discussion goes into more detail. But as you can see the original post goes back to March, and it is unclear if anyone from Plex is working on the issue.
The suggested workaround, change the dates so the special is newer than the last regular episode, does work but I would rather not have to manually change dates for thousands of files in my growing collection. I would prefer that the date for the specials be what they actually are.
It looks like this issue is relatively recent. Everything was working normally a few months ago. I only just noticed when I added a special to one of my TV series. Hopefully you can fix it or roll something back?
I noticed something new, hopefully this will help find a fix soon.
I am using the latest server for Windows and the latest version of the Plex Apple TV App.
So if you have a file in a TV Specials folder that will work as normal, select that file and let it run. Afterwards the next file will play as normal even if it is a file that would glitch if selected individually.
However, if you stop watching a file that would have glitched, it will glitch if you try and resume the file.
So it only works if Plex can first find one file it can play and then you have to let things auto run without stopping.
Given how specials can predate the TV Show it is connected to, this is a big issue, especially for those of us with large TV collections.
Unfortunately I don’t have access to the Beta, I don’t have a Plex Pass.
Can you tell me why this glitch is happening? I really do not want to re date all my specials. As far as I can tell this has been going on since March. Can someone at Plex compare code to when this wasn’t an issue?
If you don#t have access to the beta versions, you just have to wait until server version 1.23.2 becomes public.
There is no need to tinker with your database (if you can live without the specials in the meantime).
