After rebooting my laptop last night, I restarted Plex to listen to music while working. When idle the player is running at >50% CPU and I/O usage of ~300 MBs. Disk and Network I/O are nominal.
Laptops are more likely to turn down the speed of the CPU when no more processing power is needed. This is then resulting in apps which nominally don’t require much resources to suddenly take up a large portion of CPU.
The CPU percentage has to be read with this in mind.
I’m not sure what you mean with “I/O”.
A memory footprint of about 300 MB is what I see here as well. So, normal.
Side note: Plexamp is better suited as a music player.
The high CPU and I/O usage is new for me; the Plex Player has had a significantly smaller footprint on my laptop until now. And the I/O number isn’t memory footprint – Read Delta is ~300MB, Write Delta is ~0.4MB.
Is there a way to upload screenshots to this chat to illustrate the issue? I’m using Sysinternals to track laptop metrics.
I’m not suggesting the issue I noticed is the same as yours but with end credits detection turned on, I was seeing similar CPU high usage. Only started in a couple of recent Plex updates. With nothing playing.
I have disabled End Credit detection and all back to normal.
