Windows fails to grant application loopback exemption

Server Version#: Plex Media Server v1.32.5.7349-8f4248874

My PlexPass Plex server has been running for years. I noticed it stopped and when I tried to manually restart it. I saw the Plex logo in the tray for less than 5 seconds and it disappeared. I found the Plex logs below which indicated CheckNetIsolation.exe exited with code 0x5. The next line indicated Failed to grant application loopback exemption. I rebooted with no joy. Any ideas why? Should I reinstall Plex?

Plex Media Server.log (1.7 KB)

This is a red herring and is unrelated to your issue.

  1. Make sure you don’t have any other apps on the machine which occupy port 32400. (Torrent clients frequently do)
  2. If the storage volume which holds the Plex data folder (by default C:) has very low free space (or lately had at some point no free space left), your primary Plex database could be damaged. Try restoring an older backup and see if the server icon remains in the task tray. https://support.plex.tv/articles/202485658-restore-a-database-backed-up-via-scheduled-tasks/
If you’ve moved the plex data folder to a different storage location in the past, verify that this location is still accessible and present. It must use the exact same drive letter that it had when you moved the data back then. If you cannot remember which location that was, take a look into the Windows registry: [HowTo] An extended guide on how to move the Plex data folder on Windows

That is ancient. If you get the server to remain active after step 2) perform a database rebuild using GitHub - ChuckPa/PlexDBRepair: Database repair utility for Plex Media Server databases , then upgrade to the most recent 64bit version of PMS.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I checked ports in use and there was no conflict. I followed the instructions for a database recovery and continued having the same problem. I finally decided to go for broke and download the latest 64-bit PMS and install it, knowing I would probably have to re-initialize my server with all my content.

I was very pleasantly surprised when PMS started up and was stable after the upgrade. I was even more surprised that the server contents were fully restored along with links to other family PLEX servers.

I can only say your software development team rocks! The lifetime PLEX pass was the best software I have ever purchased!
