Windows Firewall issues

Hi,

I just changed my ISP and things are getting funky, let me explain.

My Plex server is on a small Thinkserver PC, these are micro factor pc’s so there is just place for a small 2.5 HD. So all my files are on a QNAP NAS and one other drive on my main gaming PC.

Now, like I said, I changed my isp. The only thing I did is removed the old router and installed the new one, nothing else as changed. I rebooted everything ( main pc, Plex server and NAS ) and started Plex server. I open up my Plex on my TV and the server is there but when I try to play a file it gives me an error telling me that my files are not accessible, verify that the drives are mounted / online.

My first idea was to go in the new router and look if everything was ok, everything looks fine. Then just to be sure, I modified my host file so all my devices could see each other, all good but I’m still having the same problem. Then I took the firewall offline of the my main PC where my files (not my Plex server) are and boom, now everything is ok. I can acces Plex (smart TV and friends that have access). So I went in the firewall again (the one that has the files, not the Plex server), turned it back on and the problem reappeared.

I’m not the paranoid type but turning off my firewall is a nono for me.

You got any idea what could be causing that ?

Thanks

Check Private/Public network setting on the PCs. Should be Private.
Windows 10: Settings → Network & Internet. Choose Properties if you need to change the setting.

Verify network settings on all devices.

  • When ISPs change equipment sometimes the default gateway changes, or even the assigned network. If any of your devices are using static address, they will not automatically pick up these changes.
  • If you were using the router to assign fixed IP addresses to any devices, those statements will have to be added to the new router.

I tried everything, nothing worked, But… it’s fixed now. I deleted all my shares in windows and did them again and now it works…well local only. No one can see my server outside my network. I tried to manually put the port to 32400 in Plex and also as a port forward in my router but it does the same thing.

Scratch that, everything is ok…Pretty weird, I replaced my 1gb switch with a 2.5gb switch and everything works.
