The latest Plex Server update broke getting through the Windows Defender firewall. I read and tried all the items listed in both Plex forums and Reddit to no avail (yes everyone else had issues with their firewalls). I created 2 rules to open port 32400 in both UDP and TCP And changed the Plex server to use those ports - didn’t work even with multiple reboots of the windows 10 PC - I couldn’t even get to it from anything connected to my MiFi only from the Windows 10 server/PC. I noticed that the windows PC wasn’t being listed in the attached devices on the MiFi - This became a lightbulb moment!
So I turn the firewall off on both internal and external connections rebooted the server and low and behold it now works!
Now it can be seen from both inside and outside my net work.
Nothing like spending two days debugging this product.
I cannot confirm that the server won’t create the necessary firewall rules.
What most likely happened on your computer is this:
You changed network, or the router, or the configuration of the router.
Which caused Windows to switch it’s network adapter from “private” to the “public” zone.
Which by default closes all network ports.
So, re-enable the Windows firewall,
and check the network connection’s status.
If it shows “public”, set it back to “private”.
I have a VPN set up and that is more than enough to keep people out of my machine unless I invite them. The Microsoft firewall has holes in it for port 32400. By the way the MiFi is a device that is router and connects To the Internet via LTE, 4G, 5G. I need this since I live in a fifth wheel trailer and can be any place in the United States as I travel. (and now you know more than you ever wanted to!). Anyway thanks for the suggestion but again the firewall let anybody in When turned on
