Wendilane,
Does MCEbuddy automatically monitor your "recorded tv" folder? I have this setup for playlater recordings to trim out commercials, but I have to manually trigger the MCEbuddy process after a file is added to the monitor folder. I don't have a delay set in the MCE settings so I'm not sure how to trigger this to continually monitor that folder?
I'm sure I'm missing something simple, hopefully you're still watching this thread.
Thanks.
I think I'm an idiot... it appears after I was changing my settings that I wasn't clicking the "start" button. I've been playing with the settings so much that I hadn't given it a chance to work it's magic after it completed a conversion (I was converting a file, changing settings then not clicking the "start" button). It appears to be automagically doing it's work now...
Hey Newbie - really appreciate your posts - you have helped me a lot. I'm just getting ready to step into this wonderful world, so starting from scratch. I do have a couple set-up questions though.
1) In your set up, when you separate Plex and WMC, would it work to utilize one of the Plex NSA solutions? Or is Plex on a NAS less capable in some ways that might be a problem?
2) In a standalone WMC PC, is it necessary to have a monitor on a regular basis? I ask because I have a very functional laptop that I had to replace because the lid is cracked and very many more open / close actions, it's going to come off in my hand, but if the WMC PC can be basically headless, this would be a ready option to keep initial costs down.
I do not currently have any systems in the house with really large storage available, so likely to be getting a NAS, and that is partly what got me looking at Plex.
Would be looking to have HDHomerun tuners connected to WMC, and like your set-up, use MCEBuddy to process the OTA data, then pop it over to the NAS/Plex device.
Initial goal being to get what is available OTA off of the cable DVR since we often have too many things to record at the same time. Once I get a working Plex going, then I will be able to explore other avenues to get other media and truly cut the cable.
Note that Plex can read and play .wtv files fine, just can't tag them correctly. So you don't even need to change the container do you, just get MCEBuddy to smartly rename the files?
While Plex does play .wtv files on my system, I experience continuous freezing. The video will play fine for a minute or two before freezing for 15 - 30 seconds.
Playing .mp4 files converted from .wtv does not display these symptoms.

How does one accomplishes this in MCEBuddy? I just want to have a WTV without commercials. Don't even care if the commercials are left in as long as MCEBuddy can output a way for PLEX to skip them.

I have a very similar process. The one issue I have is that Plex doesn't automatically pick up there are new recordings available to index (auto works fine when I add movies to my library folders). I end up having to turn on "update my library periodically". Anyone else face this issue?
Hey guys, I'm going to pull back up an ancient thread. I cannot get the US version of The Voice to show up in Plex. I hate the show, but the wife insists on having it, so here I am spending hours trying to get Plex to recognize the show.
I have MCEBuddy configured to convert to MP4, and rename according to this filter:
TVShows\%showname%\Season %season%\%showname% - S%season%##E%episode%## - %episodename%
This gives me:
TVShows\The Voice (US)\Season 08\The Voice (US) - S08E26 - Live Semi-Final Results.mp4
According to what I see in TheTVDB, this should be right.
http://thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid=247824&seasonid=606799&lid=7
I have tried all kinds of stuff to no avail, such as removing the (US) from the files and folders, removing the episode name, switching from Season 08 to Season 8, etc. But, I'm following this guide, and not getting anywhere, Plex simply does not see the shows.
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Season-Based-TV-Shows
I even tried putting a TVShows folder within the TVShows folder/share, and this didn't work either.
Well, go figure, I've been fighting and fighting this, and now it suddenly works. I have no idea what changed.
Please help me understsnd. This all seems like a lot of effort just to watch tv / videos in a different room. You are using up to 4 pcs to do all this processing work so you can finally watch on Plex. Why not just forget Plex snd just use Windows media player on a PC (any of the 4) and just watch the networked folders (whether you put on a NAS or leave on the recording PC)?
You could have one of the 4 pcs per room and turn on when you or family member actually wants to watch tv/ videos or just use a laptop and plug into the tv with hdmi. That means only one PC needs power 24/7 and the networked pc/laptop or even a networked tv can access the main pc or NAS folder. Yeah you would get ads but using a media center remote control or your keyboard you could skip easily anyway.
I am trying to understand the benefits of the complex array you are using in comparison?
