Windows Plex App Won't Play

I’d like to report the same problem with a client Windows Plex App (version 1.14.0.1340-0acc754c). Videos play without problems on the PC that hosts my Plex Media Server (both in the Windows app and in Firefox/Chrome browsers). But I have a client laptop that connects to the same network as the PMS host PC, but infinitely buffers playback of PMS videos via the Windows Plex App only (client laptop can playback PMS videos via Firefox/Chrome browsers without issues). The laptop and the PMS host PC have no network connection issues in any areas other than the Windows Plex App, so I reporting this as a bug for version 1.14.0.1340-0acc754c.

EDIT TO ABOVE - uninstalling the Windows Plex App and doing a clean re-install with a newly downloaded installer from the Plex website (still version 1.14.0.1340-0acc754c) seems to have done the trick and PMS videos are now playing correctly in the Windows Plex App on the client laptop as well as in browser. Maybe the issue was allowing the app to install latest version 1.14.0.1340-0acc754c as an Update rather than a clean uninstall/re-install.

Anyway, issue now fixed for me, cheers.

I’m experiencing this exact same problem. I started a thread about it as hadn’t seen this thread. Feel free to delete Plex app will not stream anything from my server to Windows 10, but Android is fine

Server Version#: 1.19.5.3112
Player Version#: 1.15.1.1358.43550df5

I’ve tried everything. Deleted database on the server, uninstalled and reinstalled Plex app, deleted logs, installed LAV Filters, Deleted data folder, Disabled HW transcoding.

The PMS is on an HP Microserver with an Opteron and 8Gb memory. The problem is on all three Windows 10 PCs on my network. Plex loads up fine and shows all of the content, but when trying to play something it just shows an image from the video in the background and just buffers for ages then gives playback error 4294967283.

My android phone and tablet can play everything fine and so does the Web player on all the PCs. I just cannot get anything to play through the Plex app on any of the PCs.

Same problem here. Plex on Windows will play around 30% of my total collection, which worked 100% fine since a couple of updates ago. Server reinstalled and reconfigured. Works fine on Kodi Plex plugin. Especially when I ask to transcode it fails miserably. Works fine on Linux.

FINALLY! Just downloaded Version 1.16.0.1364-da192ff7 of Plex for Windows and it now works on my Windows PC. YMMV as installing this latest version happened to coincide with my flattening and rebuilding this system, but I’ve done that in the recent past with no luck. At least for me version 1.16 seems to be the magic number here.

I’ve also updated to 1.16. Still no luck :frowning:

I’ve started looking into alternatives.

I should note that I also just updated the server to PlexMediaServer-1.20.0.3133-fede5bdc7-x86.exe.

Thanks for the reply. The latest PlexMediaServer on Plex’s site that I can download is 1.19.5.3112-b23ab3896

Have you tried refreshing the download page? 1.20 has been up since 7/24.

Thanks again. I looked a bit further into it. 1.20 is only available for Plex Pass subscribers. I’m not prepared to sign up to Plex Pass for a service that “might” work.

I don’t mind paying for features that I might benefit from, but simply just to get it to possibly work, I’m afraid I’m not prepared to pay for that.

Fortunately I’m a little more advanced than just a “user”. I wasn’t about to jump through these hoops since the web player worked just fine, and contrary to your post, this was not, in any way, shape, or form, a “simple network issue”.

It looks like the person you were replying to has cowardly removed their post.

I guess for me it’s just the question of “when will PMS 1.20” be released for non Plex Pass customers.

I’ve already done a bit of digging and am deciding between Enby and MediaPortal. If I could get some clarification as to when 1.20 is coming out, it could save me a lot of effort.

Is there anyone from Plex that looks at these pages? Is there any clue as to when PMS 1.20 will be released to non Plex Pass members?

For those still stuck, if you download Plex Media Player (for Windows Home Theater PCs) v2.58 then switch it to desktop mode, it works fine. I know that they’re advising against using it and using the Plex app but it simply isn’t working. At least it may tide you over until PMS 1.20 is released (if that even fixes the problem).

I’m having the same issue here, Plex on Version 1.20.2.3402 and web app on Version 4.34.4.

Its happening with all sorts of media, from movies to music.

If I Disable hardware transcoding both work on direct play, and some do when you set just the right bitrate/resolution. fun fact this is only getting worse.
I’ve also noticed that my Chromecast just straight out stopped playing anything. while it should be possible to play anything without issues.

I wouldn’t hold your breath. This has been an issue for months and I was hoping that the updates would sort it and they haven’t. If you’re having the same issues, you should start looking for an alternative solution.

Just reporting that the issue I was facing was not Plex related. It was something to do with my external sound board and some drivers stuff. All good now.

(File removed) Hi
I have the same issue.

Here is my logs.
