An unknown error occurred (4294967283)

Been seeing this error for the past couple days on the MacBook Pro Plex app 1.31.1.2262-74fdc6b7. Was working fine…now will play absolutely nothing. Well, not quite…it will play Plex Movies & Shows. Just nothing from any of my libraries. Works fine on my iPhone, Apple TV, Samsung TV, & Android app (outdoor projector).

Out of curiosity, I downloaded the latest player app for windows and installed it on a Windows 10 machine. Getting the same error. Works fine from the web app on either computer.

Searching for this error code, either here or from Google, gives lots of hits, some going back several years, but no real help.

Yep, same here, my Windows 10 machine is completely borked at this point. Can’t play anything all of a sudden.

Yeah, Plex on my Nvidia Shield (the Shield is also the PMS) hasn’t worked in a few days, my Mac Plex.app throws this error, Android Plex broken also, using a browser I get playback.

So only the browser works to view my Plex library.

I found the solution : just update Plex to its latest version and the MacOS App will correctly work again.

Still dead on Windows 10.

Same here on W10, tried to install fresh plex player: no fix. Error is for each media type (.flac; videos, …)

Web player is working fine.

Adding also that plexamp is working fine, only plex W10 client is fully broken

New update comes to Win10 client today, but unfortunately it did solves nothing related to this issue. Still cannot play any files of my libraries with Plex and must use either web player or plexamp for music

Very strange; my iMac (Mac OS desktop) plex player will play my PMS (hosted on local PC) fine but when I try to play a friend’s PMS content I get this error (from my Mac OS plex client). If I log into the Plex web app and try to view/play my friends PMS content (his pms is on an older Mac) It plays fine. So Im not sure where the issue is; my Mac client or his Mac PMS. I’ve tailed the plex log when trying to play his content and when the error occurs I see in the log TLS Certification Validation failed. Near as I can tell we’re all up to day Plex player and PMS wise. I dont get it; esp since I can play his content with the web client but not my native plex player/client. Seems to be some sort of certificate management issue; used to work ; dont have a good date on when this started failing but has been for at least the last few days in my case. Scratching my head on this one.

That should have been ‘Certificate’ not ‘Certification’

Support from Plex is top notch as usual. No acknowledgement, no reply.

nmedia will not play on mac but is ok on plex tv app

I get the error “An unknown error occurred (4294967283)” when using the Plex app installed on Windows 10 but if I use the Plex player in my browser or on my Roku it works fine. Tried reinstalling the plex app with no change. Currently running Plex app 1.33.0.2444.

Since at least one week Plex cannot play one single file of my libraries, resulting to this generic error code. Many computers impacted. One update had been released but did not solve this issue.

Plexamp works fine on same devices, so does plex web client.

Any chance we have a Plex Client for windows working back in a convenient delay?

PlexMediaServer-1.23.3.4707 update did solve the issue at my end.

May we please have a Plex.log file showing the issue? May we also have the PMS version number for the server which is failing playback?

  • Restart Plex for Mac or Plex for Windows
  • Play something from PMS that you expect to fail
  • Exit Plex for Mac or Plex for Windows
  • Share ~/Library/Logs/Plex/Plex.log for Plex for Mac or %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex\Logs\Plex.log for Plex for Windows

Many thanks.

Just updated Plex Server and playback seems to work again on Win10 client.

We might have a different errors with the same side effect.

@saltypoison thanks for your logs! I don’t think the issue in your logs would be addressed with a PMS update.

The video player can’t find a place to render display the video. Does this happen with all video or maybe only with HEVC?

Try the suggestion in this post: Error message regarding OpenGL 2.0 Driver - #29 by mattseeley. Although we’re detecting version 3 is available at startup it may be flawed somehow and operate better when forced back to 2.

Thanks for checking out the logs and the advice @deactivated. It seems to be working again this morning, not sure why… It was definently happening on more than just HEVC. The streams from my HomeRun tuner wouldn’t go through, and x264 wouldn’t play either.

If it couldn’t find a place on the screen to render, I’m going to write it off to my weird monitor setup. When one turns off, another turns on (with different res and scaling options set) and it can cause things to try and draw off screen.
