Ok well i bought the plex pass maybe two years ago, and from day one remote access has never worked properly, it will show i have access then go right back to red no access, which i have heard also from alot of other people same problem, but when i log into my phone and keep hitting the buttons for my server, it will show up after sometime, not just my phone but all external network devices, so that is my temporary fix for the last year or so lol
here are all the things i have tried and nothing has worked for me… open ports to router, also opened ports on windows firewall in windows 10, outbound and inbound ports no luck, connected to vpn no luck. uninstalled and reinstalled server from scratch meta and all no luck, switched routers no luck, enabled vpn passthrough on router no luck…
This is what i am working with as far as internet, lm1200 netgear hotspot but through lan cable, bought this one because my other one was a off brand cpe4g hotspot, i thought maybe that was causing the issue, nope that was not it, more money and time wasted… hotspot runs off at&t… So at this point in my life i am open to any advice i can take. I also had plex running in truenas before i switched to windows because i thought maybe truenas was the problem but nope not that either…
So basically i bought plex for two things one was mobile uploads that never worked from day one and the other was remote access that never worked from day one… been a great experience lol
I am not sure if its at&t blocking it but a vpn should fix that, another thing i find funny is i can replicate my off-site server with no issues, so i don’t even know anymore… thanks for any input…
Hello thanks for the reply, when i checked canyouseeme.org i get error, Reason Connection timed out, this is with all ports i checked on the website, even with ftp and ssh, witch i use both without a vpn, So not sure why i am getting errors on these ports…
I am new to vpns and the only reason i tried them was for plex because its the only thing i have problem’s with out of my network, i only tried the free version of protonvpn to see if it fixed my issue with no luck, maybe i will look into some other vpns that have a better free trial to see if i can port forward with them.
As of now at&t is pretty much all i have for internet, unless i go with star-link, but with that price tag just don’t seem worth it, i don’t want to pay for vpn but if it fixes my issue then it might be worth it, but i feel if you pay for a service, it should just work out of the box, kind of like my mobile upload future that never worked from day one, should have just cancelled my transaction from the start, maybe it never worked because of the same issues i am having now but not sure, figured after time they would work out the bugs with updates, not remove it because there to lazy to fix it, things in life that make you just shake your head cuz no words can describe it… I will try more vpns and get back with you thanks…
If you haven’t yet, you should double check and make sure you aren’t connecting through the relay.
I think the problem with the connection status thing is, it starts green when you load the page, then it does its test at which point it might flip to red. So if you have a bad setup, for a moment it looks like it works, and it confuses everyone. It confused me too.
Using an external port forwarding checker is the only way to go.
when i run command line netstat, it does show port 32400 as establish, but port checker says error time delayed, what i think is going on it works and then don’t works, that’s why in plex keeps going from red to green and so forth, i am quitting my job until i get this fixed lol… could be my internet provider not sure, i am going to try different ports that may work with my internet provider or try ssh tunneling or something, ill let you know when i find a fix unless i lose my house first lol…
well i pretty tried everything i could find online and so forth. at this point seems I’ll have to pay for vpn, i am not going to pay for vpn so am giving up at this point, if anything changes ill update…
Mobile network providers use CG-NAT addressing which is incompatible with Plex remote access. It places the Plex server in a double-NAT situation. FYI, Starlink also uses CG-NAT addressing.
One solution is for the ISP to allocate a unique, publicly available IPv4 address to your hotspot. I’m not aware of any mobile provider that will do so, but it never hurts to ask.
A second option, as others have mentioned, is to use a VPN that (a) provides a unique publicly available IPv4 address and (b) supports port forwarding through the VPN.
You might be able to access the server via Plex Relay, which tunnels the stream through a server at Plex. The stream will be limited to 2 Mbps.
Thanks for the info, I will look more into cg-nat type, as far as talking to at&t is like talking to a wall. My router has a lot of setting that should open ports in more than one way but fails every time! maybe because of the cg-nat type but I’ll look more into it thanks again for the info…
A vpn should from what i understand, i have not paid for one yet seeing all free ones do not support port forwarding rules… I am working on a vps server as of now, if there is a will there is a way, only thing i am seeing a with a vps server is it has pretty high latency…
