When migrating from windows to Synology are my users migrating as well? Or do I have to share the libraries with my friends all over again?
If you are able to bring over the server ID numbers (Preferences.xml) and everything INTACT,
-
HAVING turned off ALL automatic library updating functions before copying.
-
AND create the Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server structure
-
THEN installing Plex Media Server 1.24.2.4973 or higher,
-
The Synology installer will “migrate” all the server internal files to DSM 7 format for you.
-
The only task remaining for you will be to update the media locations; switching from Windows paths to DSM 7 paths (local paths) … per the 'movie media to a new location
You’ll have your media and Server instance on DSM fully operational, without the any visible change to the users.
Here’s where I detailed the process for another user.
OK, perfect, thanks a lot. I’ll ask here if I run into problems, moving all my stuff will take a loooong time.
Take your time. Restructure it how you want it. Get it right the first time
The import was successful.
Now im running into a problem.
Not authorized. You don’t have access to the server.
I deleted the old windows machine from the authorized devices, now I have an emty home screen and I can see only the servers shared by my friends.
Log files please ? (Stop Plex. Manually create a ZIP of the “Logs” directory)
Meanwhile I used the reclaim option. I’ll have to invite my friends again but it’s not that big of a deal.
I have a problem scanning the shares from another synology either CIFS or NFS. Scan is stopping immediately. I suspect an access problem although i mounted one of the shares in File Station and it works just fine. Where can I check?
I started again from the beginning. All went fine but server appears as unavailable. In the logs i see it tries with the old IP.
I attached the logs.
Logs.zip (96.6 KB)
It registered again, this time i was not reclaiming it, just followed the setup wizard at first logon from a private browser session.
No matter what I try I cannot scan the shares from the other Synology. Logs attached.
Logs.zip (469.3 KB)
The “other” synology must allow “everyone” to read .
This is because it doesn’t know about the PlexMediaServer system user.
When starting again from the beginning – you must REMOVE the old server entry from https://app.plex.tv - Settings - Authorized Devices - Server (dropdown)
On Synology,
I included the installation option “Plex Claim Token”.
This option allows you to get a claim token for your account, give it to the installer (paste into the small window), and let the installer attach the server to your account.
The only stipulation with using this option is you must DISABLE Synology QuickConnect when performing a fresh installation. ( Synology changed the behavior of QuickConnect in the final release of DSM 7 which prevents it from working in all scenarios )
If you wish to use it:
- Uninstall + Keep option
- Install again
- select “Use Plex Claim token” method
- Click “Get Plex Claim Token”
- Browser opens
- COPY the token it presents
- Return to the browser
- PASTE into the window
- Finish installing.
I only have admin and guest, both have rights. On NFS i granted to the IP, and mapped the account to guest.
If I mount the folder to the second NAS it works just fine but Plex is not accessing it.
“Guest” will work IF* , in the NFS export rule, you “Map all users to guest”.
I managed to mount it as a NFS share in a folder. For some reason it liked the v4 version and now it’s working.
Thanks for the help and the very detailed tutorials. Much appreciated.
NFSv4 is preferred and works much better on DSM 7
