Windows pushed update KB4497165 to my machine, which reset everything to default. My wallpaper, shortcuts, its like I got a new drive but i didn’t. It also got rid of my plex server.
I went to start plex but it wants to start a new server, how can i restore my old server so i don’t have to set everything back up?
All those things are stored in the Plex data folder which is located inside the Users folder.
If this Windows update somehow caused you to create a completely new Windows user profile, then you need to find the folder with your old data and copy (or move) it over to your new user profile.
Let’s hope the old user folder was not deleted by what ever caused this.
That brought everything back, but it shows it under a new server with the same name as the previous one. The previous one shows offline. Is there a way to delete this new server so everything will appear back on the old one?
For this you’ll need access to the User branch in the Windows registry of that old user and copy over the Plex branch to your current user, thus overwriting the existing data.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server is where your current data are.
If you’re lucky, you’ll find the old data somewhere under HKEY_USERS\S-*
But careful, one of these is your current user (it is only mirrored to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER branch).
You should temporarily rename your current server, so you can see at once if you are looking at the right branch.
You’ll have to do this while Plex Server is shut down, of course.
