I just set up Plex on a new Windows 10 PC with a new Hauppauge WinTV QuadHD tuner (PCIE version). Plex shows two tuners but got it completely wrong. It thinks I have 2x WinTV dualHD and USB versions as well. I did the scan for both recognized tuners and everything worked fine though Plex still shows that I have the dualHD USB tuners. Will this create any issues ? And is there a way to force Plex to recognize the correct tuner ?

I have one of these tuner cards and get the exact same thing. I’m not sure why Plex says it’s a USB device, but this doesn’t seem to do any harm. As for showing up as two tuners, this is the way the Hauppauge hardware and drivers are designed to work. If you’ll check your device manager, it will show up as two dual tuner devices there as well. I have no idea why they do it that way, but it works fine, or at least mine does.
Have you tried it? You should be able to record from four channels at the same time and watch different channels from different clients connected to the same server at the same time.
Thanks for the feedback. I did make one trial recording and was able to play it back with the Plex app on my Roku Ultra with no issues. I now suspect the tuner is misreported on the Plex server due to a driver issue. I did check Windows Device Manager and noticed that I had one faulty USB Controller. So I decided to search for a driver on the Hauppauge website and found this link that shows 3 distinct drivers for the WinTV Quad (PCIE): Hauppauge Support | Support
I loaded the latest driver that is for model 17XX (even though I have the 1698 model) and the faulty USB controller disappeared on Device Manager. I think the description for the QuadHD tuner may have also changed in Device Manager but not positive. Here is what it shows now:
When I initially installed the tuner, I just followed the instructions provided by Hauppauge and I don’t recall installing a specific driver. I sent a support request to Hauppauge asking which of the 3 drivers I should use for my model 1698 QuadHD but have not heard back yet. The driver descriptions they provide on their website are confusing. I will follow up here if I get good feedback from Hauppauge.
How does your QuadHD tuner show up in Device Manager?
I get the same thing. I don’t think it’s a problem in operation. The issue I have with the quad tuner is that when I scan QAM channels the local/national channels show as protected in Plex but in WinTV 10 they come through as they should “clear QAM”. Is anyone else having this issue and has a resolution?
There is a difference here.
A transponder/stream can be encrypted.
But a broadcast can also be copy-protected, which is simply a flag that is set in the (unencrypted) data stream.
Plex does have to heed this flag as well. Because due to its basic working principle, it will always create a copy. Which is forbidden by the presence of that flag.
i.e. it’s not a technical, but a legal matter.
