Work-around for Plex App on Surface Pro X

Hey everyone,

I recently got a Surface Pro X (running on ARM), and was disappointed when I learned there is no 32-bit Plex Media Player app or a MS Store version of the Plex Media Player app. This essentially means there’s no way to run the Plex app on the Surface Pro X (since the device will not run 64-bit apps).

The workaround - at the present moment - is to use the Edge Chromium app (which runs on ARM), and then setting the Plex webpage as an “App,” when then creates an icon in the Start menu in the same manner as a dedicated Windows app (see attached). Performance is fine, and the only downside is that there is no way to sync your content for offline access (which, TBH, is the best feature of the dedicated app).

Hoping Plex can release a 32-bit version or an ARM-compatible of the Plex Media Player app soon!

Also, I noticed that the old store app can still be installed as I found it in my app library. This is a decent workaround though.

Don’t think you can install the old store app on the SPX (at least I tried, and it said that the app was not compatible with the device).

Ah likely not arm compatible then. Not a surprise given it hasn’t been updated in years.

I’ve got a Surface Pro X too and sad I can’t sync Plex content for an overseas trip in a few days. Really hope there’s an ARM version in the works.
