Workarounds for app not starting/loading past splash screen (Version 1.3.1) - Fixed in 1.5.1

If you do still see issues, please provide details of what your setup is:

  • Current number of users, and who is linked to Plex
  • If you have auto sign in on
  • If you are using Kinect
  • What power setting you have enabled - quick launch or energy saver

I’m still having the problem:

  • Current number of users, and who is linked to Plex: 3, only 1 uses Plex
  • If you have auto sign in on: Yes
  • If you are using Kinect: Yes
  • What power setting you have enabled - quick launch or energy saver: quick launch

Almost had it.
Powered off xbox1.

Went to server and deleted all xbox1 clients.

Turned on Xbox and went to secondary Xbox account I added for this issue. It gave me a code and when I entered it all was good.

Changed to my primary account. Started plex and got a different code. When I entered it it said I linked on my browser but nothing happened on the plex client.

Went back to the secondary account and now get the spinning circle, no access to security settings etc.

Went back to the primary account and restarted plex. Spinning circle only.

I deal with this sort of stuff all day at work. Don’t want to come home and QA stuff here as well. Hope it’s fixed soon.

+1 for this issue

I have gone through each post and the work around members suggested worked for them… unfortunately, none of these solutions worked for me. As an example, when I get stuck at the PLEX screen with the load circle, pressing the menu button pops up a broken screen, no text actually displays and I can’t change the security options.

I appreciate the previous update from the Plex team… although I know this is a priority and the team is certainly working on it, it’s still nice to receive the communication… please keep it coming!

Same thing I’m experiencing. Tried the most recent workarounds up to the quoted post, no progress on my end.

FWIW I just had this happen. I was feeling brave after having it up and running on the secondary account and tried to setup my main account again, it gave me a PIN and everything but then just sat there and never connected. After giving up on it and exiting out now the other profile is broken. Signed out of the main account, restarted plex on secondary profile and all of a sudden it has a new PIN. Entered it and now I’m back in business, learned my lesson not to try and get the main account working for now.

Hi Guys, well I finally managed to get it going, but it was arduous process…

1) on the Plex media server, remove ALL Xbox one devices
2) sign into your Plex account (https://plex.tv/users/edit) and remove your “Single Sign-On Authentications” - Xbox One
3) On the Xbox, “quit” the app (if it’s already running)
4) here’s the arduous part… create another legitimate account; I’m sure many of you have a second email address (P.S. don’t use the “guest” account)
5) Once you’ve signed your life away with the Microsoft legal agreements, launch the Plex app (under the new account), and with a bit of luck, it’ll ask you to browse to the Plex website and type in the pin.
6) once in, close the app (under the second account) and switch back to your primary and launch Plex. At this point I received an error (this is good?!)…anyways,
7) head back to Plex media server and once again, remove any Xbox One devices
8) “quit” and re-launch Plex under your primary Xbox one account (should prompt you to pair it again)
9) After pairing for a last time, you should be able to restart your Xbox and sign into Plex without issues; if so, you should also be fine to remove the secondary Xbox account you created.

I genuinely hope this helps others out there, and I’d like to personally thank “Dom C” (Plex Employee) for understanding and helping.

You’ve got a lifetime member here! (and not just for the fact I paid for it) :stuck_out_tongue:

Unfortunately the security settings workaround is for a separate issue. If you’re on the loading screen (Spinny circle) it means the app hasn’t fully loaded and is trying to read the settings file but cannot so it never finishes loading (which is why you get a broken popup instead of the actual menu)

Both issues are both being worked on, so once an update comes out it should hopefully (hopefully, because it seems random who/what exactly is causing the issue) fix both issues at once so you won’t still be having to try and workaround either of the issues.

Try this.

  1. Uninstall Plex app on XBox one
  2. Powerdown XBox one AND unplug electrical cord for 10 to 15 seconds.
  3. Remove XBox One devices from server via webpage
  4. Plug XBox one back in and start it up
  5. Install Plex app again on XBox one

These steps have worked on a few Xboxes that were having problems.

Tried All the steps in this thread ==> no luck

No Kinect
No Auto logon

Vincent

Plex not working, stuck at splash screen on XBox One. Only one user, has kinect but doesn’t work on either of my XBox Ones. one with Kinect and One without. Have tried all the fixes postd previously. Still not working.

Number of users: 1
Auto sign-in: Yes
Kinect: No
Quick power-on: Yes

The key is to get a new activation PIN for your account ID. This is because Xbox Live saves the log-in credentials for all of your apps. The old PIN is from before the update. When I got my XBOne, I just logged in and had instant access to all of my apps from the 360. No further signing in required at all.

Okay, so after getting this problem, I created a new account, logged in and activated it, worked with no problems. Went back to original account, no joy. So I completely removed Plex (uninstalled, unpinned, everything) then removed all accounts from my XBOne and completely shut it down. I even removed the XBOne from my Devices in Plex account.

After booting up and logging in with my original account, I reinstalled and pinned Plex. Opened it up, generated a new PIN and everything works fine now.

I just hope this won’t be necessary every time there’s an update.

it is not working, i did all steps, WTF !!!

this is kind of infuriating…

wish we could just revert to older plex version (last known working one) until a fix is released…

hopefully, there will a fix and free plex passes for xbox users coming soon…

Tried most of the suggested steps apart from the nuclear wants as I don’t want to delete my Xbox profile! I tried setting up a new user (not a guest) and that didn’t even seem to work.

It’s getting annoying now as I use my Xbox for pretty much all my Plex streaming - is there any eta for a fix please?

We apologize again for the issues that a proportion of users are experiencing, we’re honestly just as frustrated as you are. We’re still in contact with MS trying to track down the issue and get out a fix.

What we know at this point is that the issue is unrelated to your server or Plex account. We believe that there is a chance of the issue occurring when you first load the app with a new user, so in theory creating new users and launching the app (after quitting it beforehand) should resolve the issue. Obviously this is a very unsatisfactory workaround but we’re still working on a full solution.

I had the same problem on an Xbox One that had never run Plex before. It works now, after logging my Xbox account out and then logging in again.

  • Current number of users: 1
  • Auto sign is on
  • No Kinect
  • Energy saver

Thanks for the update @moussa.uk

Not to be a dick, but we are paying for a service we can’t use at the moment.

I agree. Though it does break down to be something like $0.20/day on the monthly plan.

@moussa.uk keep up the good working. I wil wait till an update.
