Workarounds for app not starting/loading past splash screen (Version 1.3.1) - Fixed in 1.5.1

MS must be getting ready to offer a competing app. They’re going to squeeze Plex out.

I had the problem,. Changing profiles did not work. Fixed it by removing Xbox One device in the plex.tv devices page or the Xbox one authentication, not sure because I removed both. It asked me for a new pin and working again!

Ahhm … no

First post on the forums after being very frustrated all day. I’ve tried everything in this thread with no luck. A little annoying as I use my Xbox as the primary device for Plex. Thankfully I can (although its a step backwards in UI) still use the app through my Samsung Smart TV.

Is there an ETA on a solution?

There has not been an ETA announced at this time. The developers are still in contact with MS trying to track down the cause and fix of this issue along with other options they have in order to work with the holiday schedule.

Deleting XB1 in my devices and removing authentication didnt work for me last night but tried it today logged into my main XBL account and got the pin and everything works now! Very random and frustrating but just keep trying and it might end up working i guess. still hope this doesnt happen in future. The app worked perfectly for months until this update! Also i cant even tell what features this new update has added, does anyone have a list of new fixes or features?

Where new release info is always posted:

Thank you cayars!

Count me in as one of the disappointed ones also. Plex hasn’t worked for me since the last plex xbox one app update (about a week now!). I’ve tried all of the things listed here in this thread and nothing worked. It just stays stuck on the loading screen. I’ll give it another few days and if its not fixed then will probably cancel my service since my family uses the Xbox One and Plex as the main media player. No point in paying for a service that doesn’t work. Looks like it’s back to good old chromecast. :frowning:

I’m experiencing the loading screen that never loads as well. I’ve tried all of the workarounds that have been suggested.

  • 4 linked users
  • auto sign-in is on
  • using Kinect
  • quick launch power setting enabled

I’m also in the Xbox Preview Program running OS version “10.0.10586.1024 (th2_xbox_rel_1510.151203-1909) fre”.

I just fixed it by signing out and into another Xbox Live account - quitting the all and restarting multiple times. Keep trying!

Plex had been working last night and this morning. Had the same problem when I first installed on a brand new xbox one on Thursday, but the work around of quit, reboot, restart app had the app working for two days. I had shut off the power bar to remove my roku xs connections with out shutting down xbox one and plex was open on screen prior to doing the power off. Restarted xbox one and launched plex app and now have the splash screen locked. Plex media server had been running through out this process.
1 user account plex
1 user account xbox
no kinect
attempted all work arounds but not the login of new users.
tried getting into the security settings from the locked splash screen by pressing the hamburger button but a popup comes up with no text and pushing of buttons does not accomplish any actions.
I may have to hook the roku xs back up again and take the xbox back. the plex app was the deciding factor to get an xbox in the first place. 8-}

So, after doing several of the things here in the post, I was able to get things working for one of my 3 profiles. I think the issue has to do with fast user switching. Because if I switch to another account, it asks me to link to my account. But, in doing so, it invalidates the other user account. This used to not be the case (both my wife and my account used the same Plex account). This makes me wonder if settings are being tied to a Xbox user and Plex is attempting to access settings for a user A when logged in as user b.

I created a new user as i only had one. Logged in as that user had no luck. Logged back in as me, nope. Restarted the xbox, nope. Removed the xbox from my server, nope. Deleted single sign on authentication from my account on plex.tv, still nope. Can’t seem to find a fix.

Sigh… time to find a plex alternative.

I love plex, but come on guys…you’ve heard of QA testing, right??? How is something big like this missed? Rollback to the previous version, slap a new update number on it and push it out!! Get us all back up and running while you fiddle with things.

Here is what I did to get it to work:

  1. Delete all of the Xbox entries from the server and the single signon from the Plex account.
  2. Launch Plex from the main account. It should spin. Wait about 10-15 seconds.
  3. Go back to the main menu and quit the app. Launch Plex again. It will spin again. Wait 10-15 seconds.
  4. Go back to the main menu and switch logins to your new user. Do not quit Plex first.
  5. Once switched to the new user, launch Plex. It should still be spinning.
  6. Go back to the main menu and quit Plex.
  7. Launch Plex again. If it spins again, wait about 10-15 seconds, then go back to the home page and Quit Plex again. Relaunch Plex. This time, it should spin for about 3-5 seconds and then ask you to relink to your account.
  8. Relink to Plex.

Note that your second account will be the only account that can launch Plex until they get this fixed. Some people have had luck with their main account, but for me the main account still will not launch. But, it’s a workaround until they get this fixed.

Simple… This app is still considered a preview, which is why it is not available outside of Plex pass. Cut the guys a little slack here. They are working as best as they can to resolve the issue. It isn’t happening for everyone. It isn’t as simple as bumping the old build to a new number and pushing it out. The Xbox store is controlled by MS so for all we know they have done just that but are waiting for MS to release it. I’m sure they’ll have it resolved as quickly as they can.

This worked for me: uninstall plex app on xbox -> turn it off for 15sec -> remove any devices on website ->
install plex app on new user.

Most of this is right on the money. The bug (at least a variant) was actually caught by Microsoft during the certification process. The Microsoft team was able to resolve the bug when they ran into it simply by restarting the Xbox. This solution has not worked for everyone, and even the workaround with a new account has not worked for everyone. So it has been a lot trickier to track down the exact cause, which at this time is still unknown. Even more troublesome, is it is hard exactly to see how many users the bug affects or how many users affected are unable to get a workaround going.

Because of that the Plex team has to weigh all the different options they have. Even though it is a preview app, the Plex team does realize there are a fair number of users that use the Plex Pass specifically as an Xbox Pass. So getting the most stable version with the most amount of features out is very important to them.
