Works Premium Music Libary for you?

Hi,
i have made a premium music libary on a openmediavault nas. I am a litte bit confused because i cant do plex mix and i have no moods to select.
Do plex premium music support openmediavault? Also i have no posters on my mobile device when i play a song. Just a black screen.

I am very happyl for any help on this issue.
Tanks in advance.

Which version of PMS do you use for openmediavault?
Certain NAS version of Plex Media Server do not support all of the Premium Music features

Unsupported Media Server Platforms
As noted earlier, there are a few instances in which the advanced technology from Gracenote is not available for a particular platform and thus it isn’t possible to create and use a Premium music library. The following platforms are not supported for Premium music libraries:

  • FreeBSD
  • Synology (PowerPC)
  • Thecus (PowerPC)

Hi,
i run plex version 09.16.4. Openmediavault should support premium music i think. Just for a test i have installed a plex server on my windows 10 machine and i have the same issues:

  • no moods
  • no plexmix
  • no track poster / covers (album and interpret seams ok)

I cant believe i am the only one who have this problems. Do you have plexmix, mood, poster for the tracks eg. if you play your music on an android device?

I am really interested to find a solution.

I have no experience at all with OpenMediaVault.
But I can sure help you with your Plex installation on Windows. Even if you only use it for tests, maybe we can gain some insights which can be applied to your other server installation.

  • Is your server signed in to plex.tv?
  • Your server need internet connectivity at least for the time when you add new music.
  • how big is your music library? Are the files stored in a folder structure like shown here?
  • are your files ‘tagged’ with metadata?

Let’s start with an experiment:

Create a new ‘musictest’ folder on your media storage.
Pick 1 - 3 Albums from your music files.
Name the files and put them into a folder structure like this:

Musictest /
   Albumartistname /
      Albumartistname - Albumtitle /
         1. Trackartist - Tracktitle
         2. Trackartist - Tracktitle
         ...
  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. empty the log folder
  5. start Plex Server
  6. wait 2 minutes
  7. create a new, separate Premium Music library that points to your musictest folder
  8. Let it scan through and wait patiently until no more activity messages appear for several minutes. Scanning and matching a premium music library can take a long time.
  9. shut down Plex server
  10. wait 1 minute
  11. zip up the whole log folder and attach it here
make a folder and a new, separate Premium Music library that points to this folder

Hi,
first let me thank you for your reply.

  • Yes, my server is signed in to plex.tv. I can reach them from outside.
  • The size of my media folder is 8.5 GB with 1618 tracks.
  • i haven’t order them like you called it. I have thought it’s not necessary with the premium music feature.
  • Yes, the most of them have meta data a think. When i open properties of a track there will be the artist, album listed

I have done the steps you called above. I don’t have the whole album because i save only the tracks i like.

And… now it works. But its it will be very hard to sort all my music in this folder structure. I will give them a try without the track numbers and i hope it will work also.

I thank you very much for your support

Really great!!!

There is currently still an issue when you point a Plex Premium library to a folder with a lot of files inside. It is recommended anyway to only use a few dozens of files in one folder.
It speeds up library updates.

You can probably use mp3tag or similar software to organise your files into proper subfolders automatically.
Below is the format string which can be used in mp3tag to generate proper folder and file names from embedded meta data.
like so
D:\Music\$replace($validate(%albumartist%\%album%\$num(%track%,2). %artist% - %title%,),;,)
(you probably have to adjust the first part of the string to adapt it to the location of your music files)

That’s sounds great. I have tested it and it works. For some tracks i got still noch track poster. It is possible to pick the poster manual for this cases?

If your files have internal cover art, you should be able to select it when you edit the album.

You can also supply your own artist photos and album covers as ‘sidecar’ graphics files.
Those will however only be available after you refreshed the artist.

also good reading:

Ok,
what exactly is a “sidecar” never heard about it before… when i google, i got pics from motorcycle.

It is meant as a joke.

It means the graphic files with the albumart etc are stored beside the actual audio files.
Let me augment the file and folder structure from above:

Musictest /
   Albumartistname /
      artist-poster.jpg <--- a photo of the artist
      artist-background.jpg <--- a background/wallpaper particular to the artist
      Albumartistname - Albumtitle /
         cover.jpg <--- album cover
background.jpg <--- album background/wallpaper [if not present, inherited from the 'albumartist' level]
         1. Trackartist - Tracktitle.mp3
         1. Trackartist - Tracktitle.txt
         2. Trackartist - Tracktitle.mp3
         2. Trackartist - Tracktitle.lrc
         ...

The graphic files can be in jpg, png, or tbn format. For all filenames there are a few alternative names which can also be used.

The txt files can contain the song lyrics in plain text format.
The lrc files can contain the ‘timed’ song lyrics.

oh  ok. My englisch not good enough to detect jokes i think
One last question. From where comes the track poster. Is this meant as album cover?

There are no ‘track posters’ in Plex.
The graphic you are seeing during playback in Plex is always the ‘album cover art’.

That’s strange In many cases i have a picture when i select Album as view in the Windows Store App or in Android. But when i select track i am only got an Disc-symbol in Windows or nothing in Android. Do you know where this coming from?

in cases when the album art is missing, either the artist photo is used or some generic pic from the app itself.
How does it look in Plex Web?

in plexweb it looks good. But in Windows:

and on Android:

As far as I can see, these album are missing their ‘cover art’

Both the Windows and the Android app are in ‘Album’ view mode.
Whereas the view mode in Plex Web may be something else.

In Plex Web, switch the library view to ‘Album’ mode

You should then see a similar situation.

no, these screenshots are from the track mode. In Album or interpret i have the covers.

edit: the windows screen is from today. The android from a few days ago. Today the most most covers on android are present

Sorry, then I have no idea. This may be an issue specific to the Windows app.
Unfortunately, I use neither of the mobile apps.

Maybe you can ask about the track posters in the Plex App for Windows subforum.

Thats no problem. You pointed me in the right direction and i will add the missing covers manually.

I thank you very much for your support
