I have read where Plex will give you a credit if you are paying through them over a period of time on a monthly subscription, or they offer promotional codes to upgrade to a lifetime subscription. You will get no promotions or codes through Google Play. I guess Google must keep all the money. LOL…
ATTENTION PLEX
One reason a lot of people use Google Play / PayPal is to protect our credit card. To me this is not a fair process. I guess you are suppose to cancel your Google Play, re-sign up directly with Plex, pay them for another number of months. Then you might be entitled to something. I’m sorry, but you don’t give one set of subscribers options and not the other ones. That’s just not right. There’s a lot of people that pay for a number of years through Google Play, they shouldn’t be penalized because they don’t pay Plex directly. I’m not against paying but let’s be fair. It’s funny all this money they collect or years the software still has a lot of basic issues. I think that’s what bothers me the most.
the only thing we do it is you are in the middle of a recurring subscription period whether monthly or yearly then the remaining unused time on that period can be put towards the first payment of an upgrade. meaning if you are in a monthly subscription (4.99/month USD) and in the current billing period you decide half way through (about 2weeks) to upgrade then about $2.50 will be taken off the upgrade charge first payment. if you upgrade to a yearly then your first yearly payment will be 37.49, the second year it will be the normal 39.99.
it is true this can only be done when purchased though our website as normal recurring subscription. subscriptions started with gift codes or from app stores cannot be prorated towards upgrades.
We do not control other apps stores and cannot make them discount upgrade costs. We have no option to do so with the limited controls we have. and yes they do they keep a large portion of it.
You can use Paypal on our site and alway have been able to.
I always recommend to friends and family they never subscribe to services, like plex or netflix or hulu or whatever, via apple or google stores. They should always subscribe directly through that services website, so that company gets all the money and it doesn’t go through apple/google.
it is even more important for smaller services like plex and other cross platform apps. Google/apple take their portion on a recurring basis which leaves even less for the dev.
Some services, I think netflix and/or pandora is one, charge MORE through apple/google, than they do from their website.
Thanks for replying. If this is the case why have people even sign up through the Google Play Store? You are basically giving it away anyway If you say Google keeps a large portion of money.
This statement came right from your webpage. I’m not trying to bust your chops but it proves my point. I read it. This is what I’m referring to, this same upgrade process is not offered through Google Play.
Right From The Webpage.
Upgrade a Recurring Subscription
Users who have a recurring monthly or yearly Plex Pass subscription can choose to upgrade to a higher subscription plan at any time. When upgrading a Plex Pass subscription, you’ll receive a prorated credit (based on the time remaining in your current subscription period) applied against the transaction for the new subscription plan. That way, you won’t be paying for any time you don’t use.**
For instance, if you started a yearly Plex Pass subscription and then chose to upgrade to a lifetime plan 6 months into the year, you’d receive ~half the yearly transaction as credit for the lifetime plan upgrade.
Subscriptions managed through an app store cannot be upgraded in the same manner and the upgrade options can vary depending on the app store. Please see information in the appropriate article for more specifics about how to handle upgrades:
