Wrong Shows In Plex

I had Recorded Survivor and put it in the tv show on plex. Plex shows the correct show but when i go to watch it well its a different show. nothing i would have recorded. I go to the folder on my computer outside of plex and it works just fine with the correct show.
After noticing this problem i with thru other shows i have on plex and they are not correct either. But they are correct on the computer. How do I fix this??

Please post the Plex XML info of this video.

I could post the Plex XML Info of the video but it is showing the title correctly, plays a different show all together and it is on ALL of my tv shows. not just one.

I was after other information. The XML shows many useful hints for diagnosing your issue.

Hello

Thanks for helping me figure this out.

Here is one of the shows. Everything in my plex library is not showing correctly.

Attached are 2 files. One is the Plex season view of the show the other is a view of my computer folder outside of plex then below is that stuff you asked for.

Edit your library
Go to the ‘Add Folders’ tab
if in there is only a link to J:\TV Shows
then this is the problem.

You have those ‘index letter’ folders (J:\TV Shows\ S \Sesame Street)
Plex is very particular about the folder structure for tv shows.
These additional index-letter subfolders will upset the Plex tv show scanner.
They must either be removed or ‘made invisible’ to the scanner.

The latter can be achieved by adding each of those index-letter subfolders to the tv show library individually.
So that, after you are done, you have ~ 26 folders appearing on the ‘Add Folders’ tab, starting with J:\TV Shows\A up to J:\TV Shows\Z

Further tips:

1

exclude influence of wrong ermbedded metadata

Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

2

Don’t replace invalid characters in file names by other characters.
Just leave them out.
so instead of
J:\TV Shows\S\Star Wars_ The Clone Wars\Season 5\Star Wars_ The Clone Wars - s05e03 Front Runners.mp4
you rather have
J:\TV Shows\S\Star Wars The Clone Wars\Season 05\Star Wars The Clone Wars - s05e03 Front Runners.mp4

3

Use 2-digit season numbers
J:\TV Shows\S\Star Wars The Clone Wars\Season 05

4

Include the year when episode 1 of season 1 aired in the folder name.
J:\TV Shows\S\Star Wars The Clone Wars (2003)
Particularly if there are similarly named shows in existence.

Hello,

I am going thru that one tv series and making those changes to test it.

Can there normal characters? . , ? – or are those not allowed for it to read correctly?

Thanks,

Do you have actual tv show titles as examples?
period, comma and question mark should be OK, but Plex will replace all periods by spaces anyway before it attempts to ‘match’ the show.

Like I have Survivor

This is how it was downloaded for me

Survivor - s09e07 - Anger, Threats, Tears … and Coffee

I have been going thru and changing them to match like you had said

Survivor - s09e07 Anger Threats Tears and Coffee

I have renamed the folder they are in to be

TV Shows\S\Survivor\Season 09 Vanuatu (2004)

Am I doing this correctly?

Thanks,

Paul

No, there is no need to remove the commata and periods from the episode title. You can leave it as-is.

More important:
You are using these ‘index letter’ subfolders.
Plex will only work correctly, if you add each of those folders individually to your tv show library. Only adding J:\TV Shows will not work!
You need to add each of those J:\TV Shows\A through J:\TV Shows\Z.
This is crucial!

Then it appears there are an awful lot of shows titled ‘Survivor’ in existence.
You need to look them up on TheTVDB and see which one is yours.
https://www.thetvdb.com/search?q=survivor&l=en
Then use the title from TheTVDB for the folder name. e.g. ‘Survivor’ for the american original https://www.thetvdb.com/series/survivor
and ‘Survivor (UK)’ for the british spinoff
https://www.thetvdb.com/series/survivor-uk
or ‘Survivor New Zealand’ for the Kiwi version
https://www.thetvdb.com/series/survivor-new-zealand
