X265 files load slow on Roku ultra

Have a Synology DS1520+ and 4 Roku Ultra… I am slowly gone to x265 movies…
however I have noticed that they load slowly…they do play just load slowly…
I do have direct play (forced)… an idea why they load slow compared to the x264 files?
by the way NO subtitles are enabled

I’d bet they are being transcoded. Have you checked the plex dashboard to see what’s reported when it’s playing?

anything on NAS or server need to adjust for best performance??

Unlikely. Roku likely just needs to transcode x265 where x264 does not.

Others might have something else to suggest but I’d imagine if you want x265 and roku is your client then you’ll need just need to live with it.

I moved off roku a good while ago to nvidia shield as it’s a much better client steaming device when compared to roku.

Cool… thank you

The Roku Ultra will accept H265 natively. This is dependent on the TV and cabling (yes, cabling is important now)

Please observe here where HEVC HDR is direct stream (no video transcoding).

The audio is being transcoded to EAC3

I have several HEVC titles which will direct play.

You will see a slower load time if the audio must be converted. When it’s directplay, it is nearly instant. You can see the buffer fill (quickly) … 33%, 52%, 64%, 81%,… 93% and it starts m

Good to know @ChuckPa, thanks. That’s new information for me.

It’s why I bought it and the Amazon FireTV Max.

Both are native 4K Dolby Vision capable devices.
