Plex won't find channels

Plex cannot find channels, even though the tuner is working properly. The very first time I tested, I installed the WinTV software, then scanned in Plex, and I was able to find a few channels. Later, I set up the WinTV app to help me with antenna positioning. After this, I could not find channels anymore. I did this same process on a different computer (Windows 7 instead of 10), but Plex never found any channels. After reading some forums, I tried deleting WinTV and only installing the device drivers. The device is properly recognized. When I scan for channels through Plex, the indicator lights on the tuner flash, indicating that it is receiving signals, but Plex always says “No channels found.” I know that the signal is strong from my testing with the WinTV app. Why won’t Plex find channels?

Could you get debug logs of the server after completing a channel scan

And please make sure the wintv application is closed down and not running when you do a scan

Here you go. Sorry if this is the wrong way to do it, I’ve never shared logs for tech support before.

Thank you for the logs

The tuner was identified as
Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD ATSC Tuner

Is that correct ? Is it ATSC ?

Do you get any choice in a drop-down on the Plex Media Server DVR Settings “Scan Channels” screen ?

What country is this in?

Could you look into getting me WinTV app logs for a scan
See Advanced settings within the WinTV app
There is an option to enable logging
After enabling it and doing a reboot, could you use the WinTV app to scan the channels and then after that - go to Advanced settings, and select Open Logs Directory and then copy that directory out and zip the copy and send me the zip

Thanks

Yes, that’s the tuner and it is ATSC capable. I’m in the United States, and the options I get in the Plex app are “Antenna” or “Cable,” which I set to “Antenna,” and then country, which I set to “United States.”

Thanks

To eliminate any possibility of permissions issues - can you tell me if you are using the same windows account for both the WinTV scan channels test and the Plex Media Server process ?

And is this running on Windows 7 SP1 ??

Yes and I believe so. I had an old Windows 7 install disc that was SP1 and I used that but have been installing updates this whole time

I tried it on a different computer running Windows 10 and the behavior was exactly the same

Thank you. I am referring to the developers

If there is an issue with ATSC WinTV-dualHD tuners on Plex, I would have expected lots of user reports. Anyway, lets wait until the diagnostics are looked at.

Any news?

sorry i have no update available. It is waiting to be looked into

I have a similar issue, tuner is working fine and if I download a static guide and point Plex to that it will update correctly but it can’t download the guides itself.

I’ve tried removing a re-adding the DVR service but no joy, it seems to be entirely related to Plex downloading the guide data. But its preventing me from even accessing the channels.

we would only download a guide if it is in xmltv xml format downloadable from a url and having same content as if it was from an xmltv .xml file

Download may be the wrong word, but the refresh just sits at 0% and never populates the guide.

I have the same tuner connected to a pc server running Windows 7. After I installed the new update a week ago I have not been able to view any channels on any Roku or Fire devices.

Same issue for me with the WinTV-DualHD, cable DVB-C Netherlands. Logs pretty much the same as poster.

  • Windows 10 Enterprise (10.0 build 18363).
  • Latest Plex (1.20.1.3252) - also tried with rollback version 1.19.4.2935-79e214ead, same issue.
  • Works fine with WinTV application. Tried uninstalling both WinTV and drivers and only installing device drivers but no luck on Plex. Stuck at 0% and after ~10 seconds it fails with no channels found.

Noticeable log entries:

  • CTVSChannelScanner::Tune. Wait for lock timeout
  • dvb_channel_scanner_t::scan_networks. Tune failed for 316000,V,6900,QAM64
  • channel_scanner_t::scan_thread_function. Network scan failed
  • web_service_t::process_get_channels. No tuner(s) in ds_channel_scan_finished state on device compound_device041dvb#bda#usb#vid_2040&pid_8265#0014135745#

A fix will be released in a future version of Plex Media Server for DVB-C tuning on WinTV-dualHD and WinTV-soloHD

Thanks for the update, good to hear! Future version as in this year or later? Thanks.

Also maybe a good thing to (temporarily) remove the Hauppauge from the Plex site (https://www.plex.tv/nl/apps-devices/#modal-devices-hauppauge and https://support.plex.tv/articles/225877427-supported-dvr-tuners-and-antennas/). I bought this tuner and a Plex pass since it was advertised to be supported. Now I have a device plugged in that’s useless for weeks or even months. I don’t regret buying the Plex pass as I want to at least support Plex developments in some way but please don’t advertise something if its known not to work.

I’ll second that.

Yesterday I bought the Hauppage Dual and Plex Pass. After a day of frustration and desperation I finally found this thread. Had I known, I would have bought other HW. Now I am also stuck with a useless device for an unknown period of time.

So removing the devices from the compatible list would be an good idea
