Xbox 360 says server unavailable, plays elsewhere fine

Hey All -

The xbox360 app is saying that the server is unavailable however, the server is definitely available as it plays on xb1, phone app (both on and off wifi) and a separate location.

I’ve already gone through some troubleshooting such as logging out and in, trying to re-authenticate the app, etc. but to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

this is the exact problem I am having. My Roku, iPhone and the rest of my players work just fine, but the XBOX 360 all of a sudden stopped working. Did you find a fix?

I have recently started having the same problem on my xbox 360 too, all other devices are fine and plex can browse the library without issue. The error only occurs when you attempt to stream video (photos are fine).

Looking forward to hearing from someone with a resolution

Same problem here. I received a mandatory update for Plex on my 360. Afterwards I was able to open Plex and see my vidofiles. But when I try to run them I get the message Server unvailable. On my second 360 I’ve the same issue. All other player on my network are functioning fine. The problem is somehow related to this recent update. Please advise on a resolution.

i’ve tried the usual. Sign out and back in. De- and resintall. All to no avail.

Yes same here. I have 2 360s and now neither or them work. All other apps work fine as normal. So the update seems to have broken everyone’s 360 apps.

Same here…kinda stinks…worked fine until just recently…can play fine on Windows client. Just the 360 client is broken, it seems?

Happening for me too. On 2 xbox 360’s with wired connections. Can view and search my library but get the same error whenever I try to play anything.

Isn’t it about time the 360 got a Plex Client update, it seems seriously overlooked when looking at other platforms. I hope they roll something good out for it soon!

Still no resolution for thuis issue?

Same problem after the upgrade. No resolution yet?

I can browse my libraries but as soon as I try to play its unavailable. I had to use the XBOX’s default media player and search my NAS video folders in order to play something.

I have the same problem after an update on the xbox as well.

Same problem here too! Works on xbox one no problems and home theater pc but 360 says no!

Ok i see that is not just me then. I can browse through my video library from the xbox 360 app with no issues but when i hit play i get that “communications error” so i guess is related to the 360 app?

I’ve solved it. I bought a new PC, since my old server was about to die anyway. Installed the server all over again (version 1.1.4.2757-24ffd60) and now all 3 Xbox 360’s work fine again.

I have to agree with the above post. I downloaded a fresh copy of the server and uninstalled what I had on my server.
After a fresh full version install, it was working fine again.

I uninstalled server rebooted the PC then loaded a fresh copy of Plex when I opened it expecting to see first install all my settings were still there and still had the buffering issues on the Xbox360 on my home network works flawlessly on my Roku 3. I then deleted and did an install of an older version of Plex from May. Still buffers please help.

Okay, it’s the end of 2019. And I’m having this same issue. I use a 360 just to view plex in my bedroom. Why is this still an issue? Did you guys give up on us? It works when I connect to a friend’s account, but not locally. Like I need a specific setting your not telling us. Is there a thread for people to be friends on Plex?

The Xbox 360 app is no longer allowed to receive updates per MS and is no longer receiving development. See here: Plex for Xbox 360 Status Update

I appreciate the message, but I have a friend who also has plex so we share our libraries. I can play ALL of his content through the 360, and I can see my list of local media as it updates. It doesn’t play anything of my own local stuff. That’s what I’m trying to figure out.
