Installed plex on my xbox 360, it says my server is unavailable , however a server shared with me is available. PlexWeb works inside and outside, plex android works inside and outside and roku works inside
i have tried restarting the plex server app and windows OS. i have also tried re-installing and restarting plex server.
at this point i dont know what else to try.
Xbos is wired on gigabit lan.
does plex app require xbox live gold?
Windows OS box running server has firewall disabled.
Pretty similar problem here: Plex for XBOX requires server version 9.10.2 or higher, I have 9.11.1 installed. On my Windows machine I checked the players connected and find two “grey” entries I Gieß for the two XBOXes I have tried to connect. Server is up and running, I have an Amazon FireTV connected on the same TV and it works fine, the TV is a Samsung model and Plex for Samsung is running as well.
Regarding the message that it requires version 0.9.10.x, didn’t the plex team acknowledge the issue in other posts and say a restart of the Xbox console would clear the error ?
I'm seeing the same issue. I've tried multiple reboots of my Xbox, tried it on different Xboxex (Xboxen?), tried logging in and out of the Plex app, and restarted my server. None of it seems to help.

The posts I was thinking of appear to have been for the Xbox One and not the Xbox 360
Edit: to be more specific, I have updated using the Plex Pass download link to 0.9.11.678-c48ffd2. I am on Windows 7. I rebooted my PC after the update, and rebooted my xbox. I have had both an unable to connect message, and a need to update message. Plex works fine on my Android device, and via the web from other IP addresses.
I had the same experience as many posters here: local server unavailable even through shared remote servers worked fine. Tried restarting the Plex server, signing out and back in to both Plex and Xbox accounts, restarting Xbox, etc.
In my case it was restarting my router that cleared it up. There may be an issue with UPnP that gets resolved by the restart.
I have the same issue. However I noticed my friends acount still shares fine with plex on xbox 360. He uses a wired connection. I am using a wifi connection to my asus ac66u. I wondering If I need to change a setting? Any idea's?
I've got the same issue here, upgraded (windows) server versions, rebooted servers, rebooted xbox, rebooted router, sign in/out of app (tried code and logon and password).
This reminds me of early issues when they moved to plex.tv and the web interface couldn't see internal servers.
I've made some changes using tips from the Plex forums:
1) Configure in your router/firewall a forward to port 32400, so you'll be able to access your Plex server outside your lan.
2) Configure your Plex server to use this port (32400) instead of automatic one, in Settings -> Server -> Connect (with advanced options enabled).
It seems that XBox app needs to connect to Plex server using the external IP, but I think all the stream goes through local network, I need to test better.

I double checked port 32400 on my server and my router and it's all working fine. Roku has no trouble connecting, the web interface works, and the version is plexmediaserver_0.9.11.1.678. I still get the message "There was an error communicating with your Plex Media Server..." I've rebooted the XBox (360) and have a Gold account. Any ideas?
I have my plex server on Ubuntu Linux and the current plex server version I am running is 0.9.11.1.678-c48ffd2. I am also having the same issue as others above. I use port 4000 for my plex server and can access it sucessfully via android version of plex and externally from another location. I am also able to use plex web locally and remotely. Xbox 360 plex app under servers and settings shows my plex server as "Server Unavailable" but other servers show up fine and i can play their content. An added note: My server shows as online via https://plex.tv/servers. I have rebooted the xbox several times and reconnected and disconnected my plex server.. Also rebooted the machine the plex server is on and rebooted the local lan router.. Also both the xbox and the plex server are in the same local subnet as well. Please advise how to get the xbox 360 plex app to see my local plex server. Also I am able to play content from my server via a samsung plex app on a samsung bluray player just fine.. It is only the XBOX 360 plex app that seems to have a problem seeing my plex server.
