Seems like everything needed to be said was already expressed.
I’ve spent years of my life in computing and development, so I’m quite understanding about bugs and feature creep.
But at some point, can’t Plex Team sit around the table and ask themselves what constitutes Plex?
As a media player, as an organizer.
While there’s much to say about UI and UX, at which point do you consider that not having FF & REW is not part of core functionalities?
Subtitles for longer than a few minutes?
BTW, Moussa’s workaround toggling Off Direct Play and toggling On Direct Stream does not work…
Not to mention Plex Mix, which we Plex Pass user are specifically paying for, as it’s a limited feature.
Plex always masked things you didn’t have, why is it that it now must show Photos and Videos, if I have none declared in my Server, to populate them with items, from other Categories?
Why are the Devs answering that some functionalities are hard to add, when they were in from the very beginning, but just omitted on this release?
I understand new releases, new frameworks and rewrites from the ground up with new languages, but how could you loose basic core functions in the process?
And I’m not even a power user, my needs are limited.
I’ve never made a Playlist, never shared or been offered shares of remote Plex Server.
I’m your vanilla user, save for the fact that one in my household needs subtitles.
And it’s even broken for my simple needs.
TV Shows need to be restarted multiple times to get SRT support back, even following Moussa’s advices.
Upon ending a Show, cursor is lost.
You hear it moves but only get it back by going up, to Home.
When you finish a movie, ”Gifted” yesterday evening, you’re presented with pictures of actresses and actors, some with less than 5 minutes of screen time, to find in your Library, but now nowhere can you find who directed the movie.
I know I can filter by Director, but why isn’t the name present on the main screen, with the synopsis?
I’m confident, as there are many nice things, like general responsiveness, the clock with the ETA and many others.
But those are pluses.
Nice to have.
Why would anyone want to consider trading core functions with nice to have was a great idea.
Now, my confidence would be mightily enhanced if it was sorted quickly and if, in the meantime, the proposed workarounds were actually working…
As a side note, I bought that XBox One just for Plex.
Don’t have a single game for it.
So I tend to be somewhat peeved when every other platform does best.
Like Plex iPad or Plex Web, mirrored to my TV or connected via HDMI.
I was doing that before the XBox, the workaround should not be to do that again, for my wife to be able to see SRT longer than a few minutes.
New releases should not break the very essence of what the software is.
At its core, it should allow to find and play media.
I’m thrilled by everything else, but if it fails to do that, why put it Live?!
