Xbox one new app is trash!

New APP is garbage, had to unhook my xbox from TV to use the PC app. Reminds me of why i hate locked down environments… No way to stop a ridiculous update from ruining your entire experience.

I would leave a long complaint but it also took them 3 years to add playlists because it wasn’t deemed "core functionality* so i know it will just be ignored. Just here to say i agree with everyone else, xbox app is garbage time and makes plex unusable, luckily for them they already got the lifetime plex pass out of me.

Plex please just give us the option to downgrade until you fix the issues. I have several friends waiting to use plex on the new xbox one x, next month and none of them are willing to pay for the plex pass after seeing what you have done to the old interface on the current Xbox one

This is my first post and it’s a harsh one. :frowning: Sadly, I use the plex app across many devices so I know how good the others are and the XB1 app is hands down the worst example of of plex. ** Frankly, had this been the first plex application I had seen I would have written PLEX off as ameture hour. ** Is it because you hate MS? Get over it. The PS4 app is a glorious monument to PLEX compared to this excuse for a production release.

I write cross platform applications and it is not amazingly difficult to make the UIs at least look and act CLOSE to each other. My friends and I are all devs and we are laughing at this. We all cross the windows/unix/apple/linux lines on at least a weekly basis. So please get back in there and do it right. You are embarrassing yourselves with this thing.

I don’t know what is wrong with this company. This “update” is garbage. The UI is completely wrong. Once I figured it out, I had to explain it to others in my house over and over. I have a good 10 different libraries and this design doesn’t expose that well.

Now, on to bugs. This version loses connection to the server at least once a night. When it does, I open up the Win 10 plex app or the Android app and sure enough, everything is fine. Even quitting plex and forcing a restart continually goes back to the “can’t find a server, retry?” and then I navigated up to the USER icon which was generic and clicked on it. It then loaded everything normally. Why? What? Come on…

Microsoft has provided a universal app system. Redesign your app for Mono and you get Android, MacOS, iOS, Desktop, Win 10, Xbox, all with the same code base and UI design. Why are you creating 80 different versions of this app? What a joke.

I’m just glad @Moussa seems to be on our side, thank you Moussa.

my fellow xb180 users, you don’t even understand the unholy nightmare plex has been pushing across to us other FireTV users.

for the last 2 months I had to switch to the XB1 even tho’ it’s a huge power-hog, just to get a decent UI. except now that’s gone.

and switched back to using my wife’s Roku because at least the UI on that thing is (for now, lol) the same, if painfully-slow.

This update has constant connection and play issues! Its awful. It is bland and empty like a quick half finished wordpress blog or something! the old app was great, now this, agh…

Mistakes were made, we appreciate your attempt at an upgrade but it really just needs to be reversed and we can start again. Please make the old UI available.

This update is pretty horrific. No more easy search access for movies, but instead you have to fall into the list of all your movies. Absolutely terrible UI.

What exactly is the issue here. You can access your TV libraries by navigating up from the top navigation bar on the dashboard to switch between them.

This does NOT work. Only the first library, alphabetically shows up.

To get to TV shows, rename other libraries of the same type with the previx “X” to drop them in the sort.
Then reinstall the app. Because the stupid thing memorises the sort.

What do you mean? Are you saying when you go to SHOWS on the top menu and hit UP you only see 1 library but you have multiple and see none of them?

Any chance you could take a screen shot for us?

Renaming your libraries will do nothing. The list is sorted by how often you use them in Xbox2/PMP2 style UI. So any libraries you use most often will be at the front of the list regardless of it’s name.

I have a bunch of different Libraries per type as well and I’ve been trying to slim them down to make navigation easier. I’m down to:
Movies: 5 libs
TV Shows: 2 libs
Other: 4 libs

I’m not really fond of having to do this myself as I set up the separate libs on purpose to make finding things easier. With the new navigation system and not having all libraries available for quick selection it’s not very intuitive or easy to navigate or even to know what library is in use (no bread crumb).

Personally I’d love to see a Vertical list of my libraries from all my servers on the left like in the web app. But I’d take a horizontal list as well as on AndroidTV as long as they are all there in one shot. To me that’s just a whole lot easier to navigate, but that’s just me.

In any case, do you get the list of different libs when you up arrow on Shows?

The update is not good unfortunately, the search is nice, the look is nice, but the functionality is bad.

I have to agree with the other posts - This XBOX ONE updated app is annoying!
It took me most of the day to figure out that I had to move up to swap between different Film / TV Show libraries - I had thought there was a problem with my media server as it was only showing a friend’s TV library…

Never have I encountered a UI that you have to push up to swap views!

I really miss the left hand column where I had all my collections neatly listed!
Please bring back the old version, it was so much better than this crap!

This update is garbage. First you ruined the Apple TV Plex app, now Xbox. My only usable Plex client is now the Roku. Your shyte app is now forcing 60hz on 24hz content (on Xbox) which causes judder and there’s no way to get around this now. Does anyone test this stuff?

I have to ask, what was the reason for the redesign? The last version of the app was nice to use (except no folder support, which we got around by using play lists which I can’t find in the new version). Recently played, suggested lists, continue watching are all gone. Why did you do this to us after all of the good things we’ve said about this app over the years? Please, give me a good reason for the minimalistic design? This version is hard to use and even harder to navigate. You guys really need to roll this stuff back, please!

Well, after initially posting this, I’ve got the suggested lists, continue watching and recently played back, so some of my complaints have been satisfied. When I initially loaded it yesterday to start playing a movie, it had nothing on the screen. It was difficult to even find the movies let alone play one. I still would like to know what prompted the redesign. Was it Microsoft pushing this or did you have complaints about the old one? What?

Well, this was a fun thread to read. This is going to be my one and only post here but I feel I have to add my voice to the ocean of complaints. The Xbox One app is so bad that it’s usable. I’ve considered switching platforms over this but honestly there’s not really anywhere else to go. The old app was great. It did everything it needed to do, it was easy to use, and it looked good. This new app looks like a intern stayed up late to impress the supervisor. It looks terrible. Let us revert to the old app version.

I’d like to throw my support behind the view that this is a shocking update. Its gone from being an excellent app, easy to navigate, use, quick to find what you need, into a baffling, frustrating and demoralizing experience. Seriously someone high up needs to get the sack. Its a classic case of destroying the value and effectiveness of a product/service. There are many issues, but the key one is having gone from numerous libraries to one big bucket where i have to sift through everything to find what I want.

  • This experience has been the clincher me having signed up for Netflix.
    Please go back to the old style. It’ll be a tough piece of humble pie, but it’s not without precedence.

I agree this new UI is not nearly as user friendly. it also is not completely visible on screen though the rest of the xbox fits just fine as it always has. Lastly, if you have an area in your media you have told your kids to stay out of, you can forget about that now. Looks like I need a Roku.

I can help but notice that the silence from the Plex team on this feedback is deafening.

Scan the threads a bit and you’ll find posts from the Ninjas and @Moussa . They’re working on fixes for the worst issues right now and we’re told a new version will be out “soon”.

I’m trying to reply to all the posts and PMs I can, but it’s hard when you’re also working on the next update! We have a bug fix update coming super soon now, that should address a bunch of the biggest bugs reported.

Please, on roku, allow us to choose the version we have, i am completely happy with its version and its the way i like it, i dont see why i should have to upgrade it, especially since navigation on a roku isnt as fluid as it is with a joystick.

I have everything i need on the roku, live tv, my libraries, playlists, all at the touch of a button, no matter what you want to do, you have to admit this was at some point a royal screw up, maybe you cant revert back, but you can make the new UI more familiar to the old one. dont let us down…
