Xbox one new app is trash!

Well, this was a fun thread to read. This is going to be my one and only post here but I feel I have to add my voice to the ocean of complaints. The Xbox One app is so bad that it’s usable. I’ve considered switching platforms over this but honestly there’s not really anywhere else to go. The old app was great. It did everything it needed to do, it was easy to use, and it looked good. This new app looks like a intern stayed up late to impress the supervisor. It looks terrible. Let us revert to the old app version.

wow, @ksbrock@hotmail.com are you me :)?
came here to say … exactly that.
not even counting the playback functionality downgrade, but the UI of this app is several steps backwards. /disappoint

I really hope you address the fact I am not able to access any remote servers. I select them in the list and just hear a ding. I can not access any of the media. I use plex on XBOX exclusively and now it is broken.

Switch to the library that playlist is comprised of and you’ll see the playlists in a hub on that dashboard.

Did you try this for home movies? My use case for this is a set of workout videos (not that it really matters) and no matter what I tried, I couldn’t get playlists to show up in that sub-section.

Since playlists can be mixed content anyway, it makes more sense for them to be in both sub-sections and in the main home screen from my point of view.

TBH, once I remembered I had the Kodi plugin, I switched to using that. My Kodi box is plugged into my Xbox One anyway, as it’s what I use for Freesat. Out of the Xbox One, the Android App, iOS app (for iPad at least), and the Android app that runs on the firestick, the Kodi plugin is hands down the winner, as far as I’m concerned. Could do with being a little darker when all the lights are out, but other than that, it’s solid.

I’m having so many issues since this update it’s unbelievable. Was this thing even beta tested? Or is that what we’re doing right now? I’ve paid for plex monthly for a few years and recently bought a lifetime pass and this is the thanks I get? Breaking my living room plex client? Awesome.

Here are my bugs:

1.) Wrong audio track playing upon resuming TV show. About 1/2 the time when I resume a TV show I was watching earlier, it will switch to the alternate audio track… usually a commentary track. When I switch the audio track manually, then subtitles suddenly show up even though the audio track is english (my preferred language, obvi). THEN, if I try to turn subtitles off manually… nothing. I’m forced to reboot the app.

2.) MKV support has been royally borked. I don’t know what’s going on, but about half my MKVs refuse to play… saying their file format is not supported. OK, it was supported 2 weeks ago in the old app… and let’s say I play devils advocate and accept that it’s not not supported, transcode that ■■■■. What the hell, man?

3.) So many more items are now transcoding then previously they would direct play. Yes, direct play is enabled. I’m on a local network and original quality is selected. Another bug.

4.) Not a bug, I guess… Thumbnails are gone in fast forward/rewind. In fact, fast forward and rewind seem to be gone too in favor of this skipping feature. So…that’s cool.

And I won’t even go into all the clunky UX decisions… because those could be overlooked if functionality was the same, but dudes… what the heck?

Just tell us if there are updates coming to fix this ■■■■, or if I need to go out and buy a damn Roku to watch my own library sometime this year.

Hi all.

I seriously want to buy a plex pass of a year or life time. That was before you force the new UI on my xbox one. I’m a guy who love UI with sliding elements. I know, it’s maybe pueril but is the way i love. Let’s say word like geek, nerd or whatever. I’m very lucky guy also. Then i start Plex once again before taking a plex pass. I really don’t know why i do that… Maybe your (ex)UI was so cool and pro.

My first reaction was, i’ve started wrong app or i was playing too much with settings or perhaps, it’ s already the first april…

The main screen is almost empty looks like a big bug while app download library from my server !
Then i see the menu up left. Where is my 3D movies library like before ? not in this tiny menu for sure. So, i finally understand. All my beloved categories is turned in one mixed films display. Same for cartoons movies.
At this time i’m starting crying… And if an application makes me cry, i’m not buying it.

Finally, please restore the previous UI. Error is a very human stuff to learn. Then, please fixit. Downgrade, or update UI with the previous mood. Thank you.

Worst part of all of this is that on a Xbox we can’t go back to the old version. Only the one and only version that gets fed to us by the MS Store. So many dislikes and problems with the new interface that it feels like we’ve stepped at least 4 years in the development of Plex.

The UI one big mistake. I dont believe that plex revert this ugly ui back. They fix some bugs in future, but never accept that it was a step away.
I personally left this application and bought RPI3… install Kodi with Plex for Kodi addon. This addon have best UI for TV from all that i see on plex. But again, it looks like this plugin is abandoned… im happy that its working for now and i do not have to use non intuitive UI (try select specific library when you have 5 servers with many libraries!) from PMP or XBOX One…

I’m trying to reply to all the posts and PMs I can, but it’s hard when you’re also working on the next update! We have a bug fix update coming super soon now, that should address a bunch of the biggest bugs reported.

Thanks for the response, @Moussa. Does the “bug fix update” address the new navigation model so I don’t have to constantly remember if my “Sports” library is a “TV” or “Movie” library, etc.? Or is it really just fixing the worst bugs in the rollout (but
still ignoring the fact that the new nav model is totally broken)?

Do we get the old UI back on XBox One? It would be really helpful if you or management would communicate your intentions here - should I hold out for a fix/rollback of the app, or would I be better off looking for more stable frontend options for my Xbox One (maybe Emby)?

Since Plex response on this thread is extremely low, should I be tracking status updates on this issue elsewhere? Thanks.

@trashboat The first update is purely to address the most serious bugs first. Other feature and UI related stuff is coming down the line. That’s not to say we’re ignoring posts though, we’re reading all of them and passing on feedback and issues internally. The UI is still evolving, and we’re looking on how to help solve a lot of the pain points some users are experiencing.

Odd…I don’t have this issue, I can access all of the remote servers that I had access to previously with no input from me. Have you tried re-linking your plex account?

Really looking forward to the subtitle fix! Thanks for getting it out so quickly. I realize the UI changes will take time, but I do hope they will come.

mine updated.

playlist bug still there, so I haven’t tried using it for anything else since I have a nice Roku

UI interface has not changed 1 bit, I hope it changes ALOT with more updates

BLah blah blah. do this do that, 9 pages. 9 pages, how about just throw it away and give the old app back?
Im just an extra person here to add the new app sucks big donkey balls.
All my videos, when they finally play, will stop playing after 20 mins, and whole app will blank out sometimes, and have all folders show zero content.
Used plex many years, never have i seen this terrible performance from an xb app.
Also, Before this app, notifications set to hide during video would do just that.
New app shows those notifications still, even though every one is set to hide during video.
(this is today, 9 november, so the update is a failure.)

I cant tell you how much I realized the old app was great until this came out and I turned my Roku back on, xbox one had an ok plex app but was behind the curve compared to Roku, the Roku app “currently” has everything absolutely the way I want it on the Roku ultra (I think some older models wont support the new app) but essentially its the same as the xbox one’s old version but has a guide which allows me to use my dual tv tuner and outdoor antenna to watch OTA anywhere in the house without multiple antennas and poor reception from crummy indoor ones, it even added a “news” tab, nothing I really care for but its not like its a big old ad crapware add on, its useful from what I can tell. fire up a modern powerful Roku and hit plex, if you have a decked out plex server using every option available this is the best experience of all, I will be heartbroken if they bring this horrid update to it.

you know sometimes some things are just good, sometimes you got it so right it doesn’t need a makeover, the app in NO way looked dated to me, it was very very functional, and lets face it, plex caters to it literate people, not noobs, they did a bang up job, got dvr added, got live broadcast, fixed a lot of issues, have a great online EPG guide, have built a great server system (besides built in run as service option) and basically nailed every single thing we wanted all right down 95%, it was good, in fact it was great then…

a group of people get together and decide hey its time for an overhaul, lets make it look more modernish, da da da, and royally screw it all up, basically ruin it for xbox users, I seriously hope these pages and pages of complaints make them change their mind on overhauling every systems UI, people who have never posted on this forum at all have signed up just to complain or find out WTF happened.

dear plex, I would have rather you just sat on your butts and collected my money than waste it on developing this new interface, there was so much more that could have made the plex system even more useful to us, added support for more tuner cards, fixing and tweaking it to work perfect as much as it could, incorporating something behind the scenes on the server like media monkey for bulk music edits, creating a whole new library type for music videos, developing a mobile app that securely connects to the server’s management console, create better compression algorithms for DVR content, built in a video trimmer so we could go back and knock out advertisements, anything to broadenits functionality

and yet you narrow it down and nerf it, remember your catering to it professionals etc not the yuppies looking for the next flashy thing

I can confirm that the Plex app on Xbox One is still trash and needs to be seriously fixed or give us the old version back. I’m seriously looking into Plex alternatives at this point.

What they all said. This is embarrassing. Also, why the time out if I pause for a beer break? That too is lame.

I’ve been a lifetime plex pass member for years, but the “F*** you, I don’t care what you think” silence we’ve gotten from Plex on this has left me super disappointed and a bit pissed off.

How many of us have to say that our entire families hate this before they’ll roll it back to the good version? Every time I use it I get frustrated.

I’m also starting to look around for better options, at least for my xbox ones - and also as preparation for if/when they destroy the android app in the same way. Emby actually looks pretty promising, but I haven’t tried it yet…

Plex, please do something to keep us loyal members around. Or maybe you don’t care what the lifetime members think?

Do you expect they will say sorry after each complain? You have the answer:

Wow … way to mess up my enjoyment of Plex, new app looks terrible and scored a very low WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor)
Did the intern do this one ?

Try the Bumpers instead - you will be amazed!

I agree new App is absolutely terrible! I refuse to use plex now until its resolved. has anyone else noticed you can no longer us LT and RT to rewind and fast forward?
