Xbox One Plex App Update News

UWP doesn’t support the Xbox Snap feature at all. We’ll lose a critical feature if they deprecate the existing Xbox app and move to UWP exclusively.

Plex has little choice in the matter…on one side there is a deprecated sdk and very long waits for certification (and probably losing support at some point) and on the other hand the much more flexible uwp in which they can use all the hard work they have done on the win 10 app and layer the html5 interface on top (my supposition). Microsoft has said that in a future update they will support a floating window ala ios9 for video…hopefully that comes to xbox one

I understand a few of you are frustrated but I can assure you we are working very hard on the XB1 app! Please understand we can’t always divulge future plans for many reasons, but we most definitely are actively working on future updates.

Thanks for continuing to update the current app while working on the big update…we can wait  (unless you need help beta testing  )

I guess I am late to the discussion, but I just got an Xbox One S and was very disappointed in the plex app. I figured there would be some improvement from my android TV due to the superior power of the Xbox and the awesome Windows 10 app. The Xbox One S is way behind other platforms apps. I really like the new Android TV app so maybe let’s get going in that direction?

Has anyone else updated to the latest build of PMS with streaming brain support now that the XB1 client supports it? A little gun shy about jumping on too early so it would be encouraging to hear some stories.

Such a shame to lose Xbox snap feature. So frustrating that MS keep moving away from what were once great features, Kinect voice commands, and snap.
I would hope that Plex devs leave the “old” version of Plex available for installation on Xbox One. I love the snap feature, and the existing app is good enough for me. I may have to go to offline mode to keep my Plex app from updating to a newer version with no snap.
Snap is essential to my media experience on Xbox One, I watch my shows while I game at the same time.

I’m not sure how long ago it was fixed but just noticed my android phone can cast to my xbox one again using the official plex app.

Do you have instant on disabled on your XB1? I know it works with instant on disabled on the system for a couple months now, but that’s a personal showstopper for me.

Maybe they’ve fixed it server side, I’ve been gun shy about upgrading past PMS 1.5.x due to some posts in this subforum that seemed to crop up post 1.5.x relating specifically to new XB1 issues.

New update out apparently, I have yet to receive it but here is the post.

“Brand new app rewritten from the ground up with our beautiful v2 UI!
The app is available now and will roll out to users automatically over the coming days. You can install it now by searching for the ‘Plex for Xbox One’ app in the store.”

What just happened? I just got an update and it appears that the Home screen is now useless? Am I not doing something right? It just tells me to go to my libraries. What happened to all of the useful information like, what I should watch next, what I just watched, stuff newly added to my library, etc… OMG this really diminishes the experience. Please…somebody tell me I’m doing something wrong and am the only one experiencing this.

All of that will come back once you start browsing your libraries. Just go to movies or shows then up and pick server and library. After that your Home page will be populated with content.

Hi, Xbox One update it has a bug with subtitles, it starts ok, movie and subtitles and a few minutes, the subs disappear, you need to stop playing and restart, every 4 or 5 minutes. Very annoying.

Never mind. It just took some time to update the client, I guess. All good, here.

I just had an enforced update on the xbox one. It also enforced a server side update. The new GUI is not an improvement, and looks very amateur compared to the previous. The text for one of the boxes doesn’t even fit, so the word ‘Programs’ is truncated with ‘…’. Can I reinstate the previous version, it is so much better than this rubbish. I literally cannot find any improvement, only degradation. Disappointed.

100 minutes of a movie, every 5 finutes the subs stop. Horrible. Maybe they need to update the server…

Whats new?
Whats fixed?
New bugs?
Pros/cons?
What do we want in the next update.

New, simply a aesthetic change for me without an Alexia whatever that is

Fixed - nothing didn’t even add live tv

Bugs - no playlists, randomly picks one library of a type, say I have TV and Recorded TV it just picks the first one it comes to. Won’t proceed further to see any other bugs I’m back on my roku.

Pros, nothing.

Cons everything and it’s ugly compared to the original

what a disaster

I was looking forward when this update was announced a few days ago. Seems like a step back.

Can anyone confirm that local playback from server to Xbox one is still possible after everything is now rerouted through plex.tv domain. If I lose Internet, can I still use my Xbox to watch Plex, local to server?

There is a spot in xbone app settings to add a local server via local ip address and this works great without internet access. My internet has been flakey this past week and I discovered this setting.

v2.0.4 should now be available to you all, which includes fixes for several of the issues mentioned here. You can find the release notes here.

Will we get animations soon? It’s a bit jarring seeing none.

Also TV in the GUI is displayed as PROGRA… instead of TV.
