Has subtitle support been forgotten? I realise there will also be a new fix or an exciting feature but personally I just need this to happen soon, not sure I can use plex much longer without it

Subtitles work fine for me in the Xbox app

Let me clarify, native/soft subtitle support. At the moment it still requires a transcode when selecting subtitles on the xbox one app. The devs are aware of the issue (https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/173008/known-issues-in-1-5-0#latest) but Iām just concerned they have pushed it to the bottom of the priority list
@mal68 Itās definitely not at the bottom of our priority list, but there are a lot of pieces that need to fall into place for it to happen. Weāre still working on it.
thanks @Moussa
Hi guys,
Can anyone confirm that Plex Companion for Xbox one is still broken? Itās not working on my setup (not even appearing as a player anymore), but if itās broken for everyone I wont bother troubleshooting my setup any further
Cheers

I can confirm it has been broken for a while now. I think it(sort of) worked briefly about 6 months ago
Thank you.
So are we going to be seeing background play coming to the Xbone? It might actually give me a reason to use Plex as a music playerā¦
Any news on an update ?!
Unfortunately, if we Xbox One users want updates/fixes our best course of action is to buy a different device.
Looking at the release Announcements forum tells the story of where Plex prioritizes this client. Itās only been updated twice in 2016, which is easily the least frequent of any device that is not considered end of life by the manufacturer.

Agreed, and itās really disappointing. I know not everyone believes in Microsoftās vision of one box to do everything, but some of us do. I prefer not to make it even more confusing for the family to watch TV and movies by adding another device. Although a cheap Roku is tempting, and at least with the Rokuās Iāve tested it tends to direct play more videos than the Xbox One.
@Moussa and @āDom Cā can you please give us some hint at the next update and what features will be included?
It really is unfortunate the condition that the app is in compared to many other clients, especially in relation to the appeal that the device itself has to someone who is focused on streaming media. With the advent of UHD support in newer models thereās no better dedicated device that can do it all.
Iām glad that itās at least fully functional again on a base level for me (thanks jmckee!) but Iād love to be able to update PMS without there being a fair chance that some aspect of a new build unexpectedly breaks playback and Iām really missing Plex Companion and background play support. Itās getting close to what it should be but Iād really like to see this client get some more love in 2017.
As much as it pains me to say, in my opinion it is becoming clearer with every month that Plex dedicates the majority of their resources to developing new features and apps for new devices in the hope that it will bring in new subscribers.
I would guess the large majority of us are already subscribed (lifetime?) and we donāt necessarily want big new features we just want all the basic features and for the app to run well.
They can certainly deliver on everything that we want, but features like subtitle support, view by folder etc are hardly going to create a big buzz like DVR or cloud streaming. So I can understand why we donāt get updates but it still does suck.
My hope is that they are waiting to merge a universal windows apps and we will get the same kickass app they have on Windows 10ā¦might be a dream though
At this point we might never see an update for this app and they just publish their UWP app to Xbox One, which should actually be a good thing because this app is actively developed for and gets updates serveral times a month. Maybe they just wait a couple of months more for Bugfixing on the UWP side until they find it stable enough for Xbox One.
If they are still developing for this app it will probably be the last update before the UWP version.

Thats whats happeningā¦yesterday they republished the windows 10 uwp beta app with support for xbox one. Those who were previously beta testing seem to have been removed so i can launch the beta app on my xbox but it wont run. We should hear something soon.
No info on an update
UWP doesnāt support the Xbox Snap feature at all. Weāll lose a critical feature if they deprecate the existing Xbox app and move to UWP exclusively.
v1.8.0 has been released and should be available to all now. Changelog can be found here
I understand a few of you are frustrated but I can assure you we are working very hard on the XB1 app! Please understand we canāt always divulge future plans for many reasons, but we most definitely are actively working on future updates.
