Hi,
I have noticed that when playing stereo media, the Xbox One still outputs it as 5.1 (presumably because my Xbox One is set to 5.1 so it outputs that for all sources). This is fine for 5.1 media however causes issues on stereo media as my receiver sees it as a 5.1 input, not stereo.
You may be thinking "why is this an issue". Well, basically the fact that my amp (and I'm sure many other people's amps) doesn't know it's just a stereo source means that I can't use any of the stereo to surround post processing (such as Dolby Pro Logic II) to turn stereo sources into surround sound.
I get that this is really an Xbox One issue and is likely in place because the console can't guarantee that you're only playing audio from a single source (for example if you're playing a game while using the snap feature to watch a show) but it's still fairly annoying.
Is there anything that plex can do about this - such as forcing the Xbox One to output stereo on stereo sources, or somehow switching the setting when a stereo file is played? I'm guessing probably not as apps are likely sandboxed but I thought I'd ask just in case (or to see if anyone else has a creative solution for this). My current alternative is just to use my Chromecast which does a pretty good job, but other than stereo stuff the Xbox One deals with playback better as it supports more media formats.
I'm curious about this as well.
Even if there's nothing Plex can do, does anyone have any suggestions for workarounds?

Petition Microsoft to make the audio level settings dynamic instead of static (ie make the setting an up to instead of always). Until that happens the Xbox One is simply going to output the number of channels you have selected from the Xbox Audio settings page.
