So I’m having a bit of unusual problem that I can’t diagnose. I recently moved house and don’t have home internet where I live, to date this hadn’t been too much of a problem. I just plugged my NAS into a wifi router than connected my devices (iPhone and Xbox One) to the media server via WiFi (the router is not connected to the internet).
Xbox really doesn’t like not being connected to the internet but I eventually managed to get it to play nice with Plex using the “Manual Servers” connection option.
This setup had been working fine for weeks, then all of a sudden, out of the blue, I turn my Xbox on one day and Plex won’t connect to my server. I did all the usual tests, connected from the Plex app on my phone (worked fine), restarted all devices involved (multiple times), reset the network connection.
What I can’t figure out is, what changed? Nothings connected to the internet, so there was no updates or anything else to trigger a change that would suddenly make things stop working.
Anyway, any help on solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
It’s probably worth noting that when I first set this network up I had the same issue until I added the settings seen in the screenshot above. And when the issue presented itself again today I checked these settings and they had reset itself, I changed the settings back to what you see above, but this time it didn’t fix the problem.
From a web browser on my phone. My phone has no issue connecting to Plex from the app though.
RE: Secure connections requirement, that’s hard to determine. I can’t really connect to Plex from a computer at the moment since the server is on an isolated network. To connect to the server I need to login but to login I need to be connected to the internet, and seeming as my computer can’t be connected to both the internet and the Plex server at the same time it doesn’t work. I had so much difficulty trying to connect my computer I was usprised my phone and Xbox actually worked to date.
