Xbox One resolution issue

So for some reason when I stream an 8GB mkv file to my xbox one it streams at 480p is there any way to up the resolution to be indicative of the actual file quality? I read somewhere about the changing the xbox one settings, but poking around I find nothing. Thoughts?

Hi, godisevol.  Welcome to the forums.

To change the quality setting on XBO - first bring up the context menu while playing a video (play, pause etc.) and then look to the right.  You will see a dots menu all the way to the right, this menu allows you to change things like the quality, subtitle and audio track.  For some odd reason the XBO chooses a fairly low quality setting as the default.  You should only need to change it once though.

Ah! Thanks, but it still isn't fixing the issue. Any other ideas? It seems to only be happening on the xbox one and not my iPad, MacBook, or iPhone. Oh and it's a wired connection if that matters. I'm also running a 100Mb fiber optic connection so I shouldn't be experiencing any streaming issues form that.

What happens when you change the stream quality?

What indication are you using to determine that it's outputting 480p?

The screen goes black and it then it comes back and looks the same, pixelated and dull.

Actually as far as quality I'm not sure it's 480p, but it actually looks worse than watching an SD broadcast. The file I'm testing is ripped at 720p from a blu-ray and it's sharp on other devices (including an older gen roku on a slightly smaller TV).

Can you put the file on a flash drive and try playing it directly from the Xbox?
