XBox One unable to play some media after update

Is anyone else having problems with certain media since the update to the Xbox client over the last few days?
I’d watched some blu-ray episodes last night, but as of the update all I get is “The audio or video is not supported by this device”.
The offending files are 1080 h264 with Ac3 5.1
I am able to play other files with 1080 h264, and files with ac3 5.1, but it seems like the combination of the two is causing a fatal error.

Im going to go have a look to see if there is a missed update on my PR2100, in case that is a factor… I’ll let y’all know if that’s the issue.

Any other suggestions welcome!

Yes, issues with mkvs has been reported, pretty much the same as you described. Turning off direct play seems to fix it for now.

Yup, having the same problem as well and turning off direct play fixes it.

Out of curiosity, is there a thread I can watch for when it’s fixed?

I’ve tried watching some blurays, but the PR2100 isn’t able to transcode properly (buffers for ages and then falls over - pretty pathetic given that it’s for one local viewer only !), so I’m going to have to just leave Direct Play on and limit the media watched.

I’m not convinced that there isn’t a wider xbox problem going on, though, as I can’t play the problem media through Microsoft’s TV and Film app either…

This one seems to be the most active: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/293135/mkv-files-not-playing-on-new-xbox-one-update/p2.

And yes, it appears Plex is thinking it may be a broader xbox issue and they’ll have to send the issue to Microsoft for analysis.

I think I’ve figured it out - it’s a bug in UWP.

Both the new Plex and Film and TV app are UWP and can’t play… VLC isn’t and can (also now discovered that the VLC isn’t too bad, even if it only gives the file names!).
