Xbox One X Direct Play/Stream Impossible Buffering

Server Version#: 1.18.8.2527
Player Version#: Latest [?]

For some reason, I can not get the Xbox One X player to successfully play anything that can be Direct Play/Stream’ed. My internet connection to my server is 100% OK so that’s absolutely not an issue [can play ~20Mbps files].

When I play a media file w/ Direct Play and Direct Stream options checked on the Xbox, I get about 15 seconds of buffering, followed by 0.5 seconds of playback, and again and again, never actually successfully playing the video. However, as soon as I turn off the Direct Play and Direct Stream options, everything springs to life and the video chugs along happily even at original quality. This has happened with every video file I try to Direct Stream, with the usual videos being MKV and h264 8-bit 1080p.

I do not have this Direct Stream issue with Plex Web, Plex iOS, or Plex Apple TV, it seems to only be the Xbox One X player. I restarted the console and reinstalled the app to no available. It simply seems like the latest app version just can’t Direct Stream or Direct Play any files…

For some more info, here’s the information about one of the files that won’t play:

Most of my other files basically have similar if not identical specs to this.

i had similar issue
This was my fix (maybe it can help you)
1-Choose an episode or movie
2- play it
3- pause it
4- click the player setting option
5- go to quality try setting it to 1080p hd high 20mbs (or your top rate) if its on play original quality

I dont know why putting it to the max is better than the original quality for some reason…

Gave a few things like that a shot, but this didn’t help either unfortunately. At least not with Direct Stream enabled.
