Xbox player cannot direct play with SRT subtitles

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3876
Player Version#: 5.6.1

All testing with the same movie (x265):

In Xbox I can direct play it successfully.
In Xbox, whenever I add SRT subtitles (disabled burned subtitles) I got a transcoding error.
In Windows, it direct plays without problems even with SRT subtitles (no transcoding error).
In Xbox, if I force transcode (lowering the quality for example) I can play the movie with SRT subtitles.

Conclusions: Xbox can direct play, can transcode, can transcode + SRT subtitles, but cannot directplay + SRT subtitles

This turns my Xbox into a brick basically.

In the app on the XBox, there is an option to send logging info to your server, please enable that. Reproduce the problem with direct playing and subtitles, then grab your PMS logs Plex Media Server Logs | Plex Support and attach them to your next comment. Also provide the XML for the video you tried to play Investigate Media Information and Formats | Plex Support.

Here we go, logs & xml of content.

Ok, so your logs show the problem is with the subtitles. It was obtained using our subtitle search feature. Can you try downloading another version and see if you get the same problem? You might have gotten a bad file.

The same movie + SRT combination works everywhere (windows, android, mac, kodi + plex), but it breaks in Xbox.

I’ve tried with different STR with exactly the same results. All of the SRT tested were in spanish, because I don’t know how to configure Plex to search for multiple languages in the subtitles search.

You can’t. That only allows searching for 1 subtitle at a time. Can you try an English one, just to see if maybe the XBox is having issues with the Spanish text.

Switched to english, downloaded new SRT eng subs and tested it on Xbox: same error.

Just to stress it, the error is only present in Xbox, the same media works everywhere. Also, it happens with almost (all?) the sources I have, it’s not just something happening in a single movie.

It should be working. I don’t have an XBox. Let me see if I can find someone else to test.
