Xbox Series X - Plex for Xbox drops frame rate - wired 1Gbps con. - plays fine on other Plex players

Server: MacMini 1Gbps ethernet, media stored on Synology NAS 10Gbps ethernet
Server Version#: 1.31.0.6654

Plex for Xbox (Xbox series X connected to 1Gbps Ethernet):
Player Version#: 5.54.1
Platform Version#: 10.0.22621.2864

My Xbox Series X Plex app is dropping frames like crazy, yet other clients (even wireless clients) on my AppleTV for example are not. They play fine.

Xbox is wired connection 1Gbps. Plex server is 1Gps (wired). Media is connected via 10Gbps NAS.

Not sure what is going on. I tried so far restarting the Xbox console, uninstalling and reinstalling of the Plex player app on the Xbox… running out of ideas and thought I would send this to you!

Is this happening on all media or only some? I’m using an Xbox Series X but it is wireless and I don’t have that problem so I’m thinking it has something to do with the media.

You might have to upload your logs for the ninjas and team to have a look at.

Update. If you are dropping frames try disabling the following settings on the Client / Player:

Settings → Video

See if Allow Direct Play and or Allow Direct Stream are checked. If they are uncheck them.

I just did and no more frame drops. Super weird, but hey, at least it works again!

If anyone feels that this should not be the reason for frame drops please let me know…

Thanks.

Something else must be going on there. I have direct play enabled and my viewing is smooth on my Xbox.

The same thing happens to me. I noticed it’s usually when streaming 480p content. I’ll have to try your trick of disabling direct play and direct stream next time it occurs.

Thanks this is the dumbest fix but it works. I really really hate the Plex Xbox client. It worked decently for as long as I can remember now for the past 6 months it absolutely sucks. Everything is jittering, drops audio or just straight up refused to play. I’ll be getting a shield pro but we shouldn’t need new hardware when a Xbox series x should already be capable.

Hmm while the Xbox app on the Series S has a couple of weird issues general playback is not something I’ve experienced. Only had it about 5 months though.
