Where did DVR and Live TV option go on Android TV and Android app??

What’s happened with the Android and Android TV Plex apps? None are showing me Live TV and options to record shows. I log in using the same user as with the Win 10 Plex media player app, which gives me these options. I’m on the same network even though I have a Plex pass and can connect outside the network. Are there bugs in the Android app versions? Very frustrated here.

Not sure what the problem is, I’m on Mi Box and this used to work; recently there were updates to the Plex app which I quickly chose thinking the horribly limited layout would give more options, and I no longer get Live TV or a way to record unless I log in via browser or Win 10 player.

Not even sure what I need to do to fix this.

Your suggestion works only on the Android Mobile plex app (not the Android TV app), and it doesn’t work properly for me.

Android Mobile behaviour:
Version 7.0.35502

I have 2 Plex servers; one is on my Qnap (it’s a backup server), the other is Plex server in windows running in a VM (primary). When I do as you suggested on my phone, it will only give me LiveTV menu options for QNAP, not the Windows Plex server.

Android TV behaviour:
Version 7.0.2.5441 (1e95bf1b)
Version 7.0.3.5502 (4c9e7618)

If I connect from my Mi Boxes (I have 3) none of them see Live TV menu options on the left menu, regardless on which Plex server I connect to. However, if I switch between both servers, I see the Live TV appear in the menu on the left, then disappears quickly.

What’s questionable is that I tried to switch servers, back and forth between the 2, about 4 times, the last time I logged into the QNAP server, the LiveTV/Record menu options stayed on the left menu bar, was able to use them, but they disappeared in about 4 minutes.

If I log in to the Windows Plex media player, I see the Live TV section (with the two Recording Schedule and Program Guide options), on both Plex servers.

This points to an issue with the Plex Android TV app - I am going to find older versions and see if downgrading will fix the issue.

Fire TV behaviour:
Version: 6.15.2.4143 (9459e30a)
I don’t have this issue with the Plex app:

I uninstalled Plex app on my Mi Box, extracted the Fire TV Plex app version, installed it on the Mi Box - Live TV behaviour is back to normal. Looks like the new versions break this functionality. Great dev work Plex…

I’m also experiencing this issue on iOS,

On 5054, the tuner shows up just fine on plex web with the new grid layout.

Similar issue for me. Plex DVR is available through the Web and used to work fine through the Android app, now when I tap on the Live TV & DVR tab in the app I see this:

I’m going to roll back the app on my phone as well, seems the latest updates have been killing standard functionality to bring other features like “podcasts” which I don’t really care about at this point.

Hello!
I’ve just installed Plex app to my new Panasonic Smart TV. It was easy to connect my PC to the TV via the app, but I can see a fully different view vs PC version. For example, I bought Plex Pass and should be able to see the Live TV and DVR option, but this is not there in the TV app. On the PC version I can see at but I don’t have a TV tuner for my PC. I believe I don§t need for an additional antenna for the smart TV, is that right? So I don’t know my issue with less functionality is only due to the Panasonic Plex app or something else.
Thank you!

nothing has changed about the Android TV app in that area.

It just happens that I rolled back the Android TV app to version 6.15.2.4143 which I grabbed from my Fire TV and now Live TV is again working.

Interesting, I ran Plex on one of my Mi Boxes that had the latest Android TV version, and not Live TV menu appears… not sure why this is inconsistent…

Server version is 1.12.3.4973

I just posted a similar issue on one of my Shield (Android) boxes (the other two work fine). Something is wrong. I even went so far as to completely reset the shield (AndroidTV) back to factory defaults and start over and no change. I now have a PlexPass feature I’m unable to use.

Looks like the release of the “GRID” style TV Guide (which I don’t even see as a feature even though I have a Plex Pass and I had “announcements” one of which is the the Grid is ready) killed the Live TV Android feature; at least one user reported this.

https://www.plex.tv/blog/grid-who/#disqus_thread

No, I don’t think the release of Grid is related. The ‘Live TV’ is working on 2 other of my shields. For some reason, it shows up ‘Live TV’ for a second and then disappears. I believe it somehow related to ‘PlexPass’ not being enabled (when it should be) on just one of my Shields. (BTW, this occurred BEFORE availability of Grid).

Hey Plex… Please fix this or get me some help.

This was happening to me as i posted earlier in this thread but today for some reason it’s all working like it should, just checked my shields and livetv is working again and it’s also working on my android app on my phone.

I’ve not changed anything and last night it still wasn’t working so i’m not sure why it’s started working now.

Seems there are some intermittent issues that Plex should be owning up to and resolving.
Today I couldn’t even log into my Plex server, for whatever reason (that sits on my local network) for several minutes…

My Live Tv is there for a second then goes away. Only on my FireTV and Firesticks… Annoying!

We’ve been able to identify this bug when you have more than 1 server. Will keep you posted on when a fix will be available.

Good to know - I turned off my 2nd server [QNAP] so I don’t run into this issue; hopefully the code will be fixed on next public releases for Windows Plex server.

Thanks!
