thanks anyways @f00b4r,

I fixed the problem myself, all is good now!

Can you tell us was the problem was?
I have the same problem and cant fix it!

sure! The devs or whoever wrote the manual forgot to include that you need to also change plex server IP in settings.py AS well as restart the PC/server to reset connection.

hope that helps (and no plexpass only people bias either!)

It gets discovered automatically for me.

There should be no need to do either of those things, if anyone experiences the same issue please post logs etc before ‘fixing it’ and we will try and see if a cause can be found.

Did you use your router or ISP DNS server IP to get DNS?

I cant get it to run. Maybe someone could help me? There is this "HTTP response error: 401 Unauthorized" error...

Can you give all the info requested in this please:

https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/How-to-report-an-issue

I had the same problem and found the solution but this solution needs another solution.

Problem - Go to PlexMedia Server web - Settings - myPlex and uncheck "Require authentication on local networks"

Once I changed this, authentication went through. However, I would like to have this setting enabled because I have multiple Plex servers and multiple users in my house.

How can this be fixed?

Thanks for the info, it is helpful and the issue will be looked at.

Just bear in mind you are unusual in your setup so i do not know how high up the priority list it will be (that may also depend upon how much effort is required as well).

Strange, now it works fine. I dont know what exactly made it run or what the problem was... Sorry.

Similar issue for me.  Apple TV says No response from Plex Media Server

My error reads:

XMLConverter  :  Unable to connect to 192.168.178.2:32400

Reason:  timed out

XMLConverter  :  No Response from Plex Media Server

192.168.190.110 - - [05/Jun/2013 11:10:05]  "Get /&PlexConnect-Settings HTTP/1.1" 200 -

Pretty curious what 192.168.178.2 is.  That's not my network scheme.

>> 192.168.178.2

This is the fallback IP address as seen in settings.py.

It gets used, whenever PlexConnect can't find a PMS at startup... so you should see a warning like "GDM: no server discovered" close to the start of the PlexConnect log.

And it means, what it says: GDM didn't find your PMS.

Restarting the DNS server fix my issue.

I'm having the same problem, though I suspect it is because the Plex server I'm attempting to use is outside of my local network.

I was hopeful that supplying my [local] public IP in the remote Plex Media Server -> (Advanced) Network -> "List of networks that are allowed without auth" configuration dialog might solve the problem. Unfortunately, it appears not to, as I still get:

XMLConverter : HTTP response error: 401 Unauthorized
XMLConverter : No Response from Plex Media Server
… errors when attempting to proxy the connection to my Plex Server.

As requested:
  • ATV3
  • v5.2 (6010.96)
  • DNS server set on the ATV (previously, my local router; now, my local MBP, and I left PlexConnect using Google DNS)
  • PlexConnect is installed on: MBP i5 w/ 8GB running 10.8.3
  • The local IP address of the device that PlexConnect is installed on: 10.10.220.2
  • Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: Mac Mini C2D w/ 2GB running 10.7.3
  • The local IP address of the device that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: no local IP (remote IP specified in Settings.py for etIP_PMS)
  • Media on network share (on same network as PMS)
  • PlexConnect gitcloned Jun 5 16:22
  • Description of the issue:
XMLConverter : HTTP response error: 401 Unauthorized
XMLConverter : No Response from Plex Media Server
  • logs at http://pastebin.com/uhEmqEgW

Any help or (pointers to my mistake) are welcomed and appreciated. :)

The use of PlexConnect is only supported on the LAN, if you ant to connect outside of it you will either have to sit for MyPlex support to be added or look at the thread where it has already been played with by a couple of users.

I was having the same problem. Turned out that my computer had two active interfaces. A 192.168.1.0 subnet for WiFi and 192.168.56.0 used by Oracle VirtualBox.

Plex Server was automatically binding itself to all interfaces.

Plex Server was configured to allow 192.168.1.0 subnet without auth.

PlexConnect was automaticaly detecting Plex Server on 192.168.56.0 subnet.

Adding 192.168.56.0/255.255.255.0 to the list of networks in Plex server fixed the issue.

Spent all day with these problems… Rebooted Mac and all works perfectly :-). Great piece of s/w
